Default Best shoes w/ Mallets??

Anyone ever converted a pair of Five.Ten High Impact shoes to clip into Crank Brothers Mallets? Maybe not possible, or even sensible... All of you riding on Mallets - what shoes are you using?

Pearl Izumi, Shimano, 661, and some cheap flip-flops.

My buddy wears Northwave with his Mallets.

661 Filters. I had to use spacers to get it to fit properly.

Yeah, that's what I was using. Had to use the shims under the cleats--then life was good. I'm running platforms now, but that's just me.

BUT I'm still wearing those "Shimano hiker type spd shoes!"

Running Specialized Sport MTB shoes, no issues except the mallets are doing a good job scuffing them up.

How about Adidas Hematomas? Anyone?

Thanks for the input. I've since found other threads on Mallets as well, and perhaps this thread should be merged.

I use Cannondale Roam MTB shoes with Mallets and they work very well. Nice and grippy even when not clipped in.

Default Mallet/Shoe Combo

I use Shimano MTB (hike type) for real outback HAB trails and Northwave for most everything else.

i use speci tahoe mtb shoes. i have the cleat as far forward as i can get it, which for me is a very good powerful spot for pedaling, but when shit gets hairy i usually unclip and put the pedal more towards middle of the foot.

it takes a little getting used too, but im completely comfortable with the way it rides.

...and do you find that you'll accidentally clip in when bouncing over hairy sh*t?

very rarely, but even if i do i can tell right away. i have the pins out all the way in cut up your shins mode, which really helps keep you from sliding around and accidently clipping in. they do a number on the bottom of your shoes for sure though.

everything said, i like my shoes w/ the pedals because the bottom of my shoe is relatively flat - but i imagine there is a clippless shoe out there that is flatter. i would say the flatter/grippier bottom the better.

..like the Five Ten High Impacts. I just wish they had a mount for cleats. As addicted as I am to Crank Brothers' various clipless pedals, I actually really like riding platforms, but they suck when I have to climb back to the car and I'm pedaling in squares.

On my 3 bikes, I use Mallets, Acids, and Smartys, and for all three platforms, I use Shimano DX.
