Shake and Bake!

Has anyone heard about this? I don’t want to start any sort of political discuss on this forum, but I got one of those campaign ads from one of the county supervisor candidates who claims her opponent supports building a tunnel in through Los Padres. The ad stated the tunnel would bring cars from Riverside County to South Orange County via a tunnel by the 241. Has anyone heard of this before? I’m not sure I would like more cars back there, please you know the Cali way of life if there is a freeway, must build more homes. Anyway just wanted to know if this claim was true or if anyone had any other insight.

I have lived in a few different places and Orange County is the capitol of expansion and devolpment. This county is run by the big devolpers, so that tunnel has a good chance of becoming a reality.
When I visit where I grew up, Sonoma and Mendocino Counties, much of it has remain little changed. Pt. Arena sees no expansion, it fact it keeps loosing population..

I don't think the tunnel will happen. They have no idea how much it will cost. Plus there so much other geologic stuff down there that would complicate it even more. But eventually there will probaly be a road through the Santa Anas.

Make everybody ride bikes and this discussion would be over.
CONSIDERING THE NEW TECHNOLOGY THEY CAN DO THIS "TUNNEL" AT A COST EFFECTIVE PRICE. pROBLEM IS, WHOSE GOING TO BANKROLL IT? Sorry about the caps??? To lazy to change it.

Sure, but everybody wakes up and says, "Damn, I'm paying way too little money for my house. I need to move someplace where the real estate values are totally overpriced and the housing density is maxed out and traffic is completely sha-glanked on the freeways and streets. Oh, and while I'm at it, I think it'd be great if the beaches were the most polluted in the state as well! Where can I find such a place?"
Yeah, there's no reason to live in the Inland Empire and commute to the OC. ![]() Not to say that I'm in favor of the tunnel. But, let's not get all giddy with Inland Empire bashing. ![]()

Anyway, didn’t mean to sound like the us versus them deal as counties go; just the us (mountain bikers/people who like the Santa Ana’s) versus the people who want to shorten their commute and any cost. |

![]() I wonder, though, if there's a bright side to this? I mean, is it better to have a tunnel than a road going up and through the Santa Anas? I'm sure we all agree that neither is actually wanted. But, I think that it's kind of inevitable. That fact is that SoCal is a great place to live and a lot of people want the life that's available her. So, I think something will be done. The question is, what is the lesser of two evils?

Can't we just close our borders, like we did with Mexico?
Oh yeah, nevermind. At the risk of dating myself here. I remember when as kids we used to go hunting where Laguna Nigel and Lake Forest sit today. I remember when they were talking about making a city way down in the boonies of OC, I think they were going to call it "Mission Viejo". In fact I remember when there wasn't really a city of Irvine. There was the ranch of course and a little later the university and this wasn't that long ago. I hate to tell you, but in the not to distant future there will be a tunnel and a number of roads crisscrossing the Santa Ana's. We probably have the best all year round climate of any other place in the nation and even CA bashers have to admit that. Some say they need the changing of the seasons, well move to the mountains. I grew up some in OC and my family still lives there, but I'll stay out of the congestion. I don't promote where I live because I like it the size it is with very little traffic compared to the other surrounding counties. I've lived in a number of other states, and I say without a doubt for year round living there is nothing better then SoCal. Even with roads and tunnels.

Temecula's population is around 100,000 and Interstate-15 alone receives over 250,000 Riverside County-to-San Diego commuter vehicles everyday. So, I'm thinking most of those are probably cars from southern I.E. I commute from Temecula to San Diego and from 0400-0800 traffic is insane. I used to commute from Temecula to Corona and traffic wasn't near as bad heading that way, but the 91 is always backed up well into Riverside starting as early as 0430. I blame those darn San Bernadino people ![]()
Going to OC is the only other option for many of us to bring in the mighty $$...its that or LA, cuz SB does not pay the 4yr edumacated person waht thar worth. I drive 100miles back and forth to work, but I'm lucky cuz i go in at 6:30...the afternoon traffic at 3:30 still sucks though. Regardless I still would not want a tunnel to screw up more of our limited OC resources. |
