Default New Trek got imprints from rubber straps on yakima wtf?

Hey guys,

So this is the story...

I bought a Trek Fuel EX 9 (white/black) along with a brand new yakima rack. So I decided to take it for a spin and with excitement, I carefully placed the bike on the rack and strapped the rubber straps in place. When I took the bike off the rack at Marshall, it left yellow imprints on the paint, I tried everything and I cannot rub it off, what the hell and why? im confused... after a moment I thought to myself I should of let the bike sit in the sun to wear the paint in, but I still shouldnt have got this weird yellow hue that looks like ovals on my paint. It looks like a dirty bum kissed my top tube 3 times

I will get a picture up shortly

It could be oil from the rubber compound extracting and messing with your paint. Without a pic, it's kind of hard to tell.

Hmmm I feel for you and your new bike...

...but....

I'm sure in time your bike will get all kinds of scratches and marks from some hardcore riding and you won't even notice the yellow ovals.

Sam...

did it eventually come off? I will call yakima on this issue, for those who have road bikes, I bet having their bike free from any cosmetics would be of some valuable importance, to the mountain biker not so much...

Might not be yakima's fault, could be a reaction with the rubber from that silicone detailing spray that bikes are hosed down with on the showroom floor.

Those straps will fail in about 6 months anyway. Ditch them and use a rachet tie down. One of those straps broke and I almost lost my bike on the way to Big Bear on the 10 at 65 mph.

it didnt come off. . i have tried everything. It has left those rings on an 8 year old bike and a brand new giant. if you find out anything from Yakima please let me know. I have heard about these things breaking off so im looking into different options of tying it down.

Sam, I used brake cleaner and it wiped it off. I let it sit on the marks for a couple seconds, and did it about 3 times.

Maybe you're correct, a bum did kiss your top tube 3 times.

use brake cleaner...it cleans anything off a bike frame. I get marks from bike racks and dirty cable locks. I buy brake cleaner by the case due to its magic cleaning ability.
