Ya, I know he's not. He said this thread was. I was just stating I didn't see that and was wondering if he could quote the post(s) that were.

I've attended the Oakley friends and family event.
Invites are given out for specific times, every 20 minutes or so a group enters.
There is a $10 entrance fee
Some items are limited in Qty
It's a mad house even with an early start time.

ONe thing I learned though, is I really don't like big pushy crowds. And I'm just too courteous to enjoy pushing people just to buy somthing.

Seriously, I went to it once, It seriosuly sucked serious ass. Too many pushy ass people, too many people hoarding stuff. I went in, walked about for 20 minutes said Eff this and left. Putting on a big sale ourselves, I can pop off with two very big helps to this. First off, Limit how many people can be in teh store at any one time, two forks max, two frames max, if you want more, you have to exit the store, and come back in. Those would be my two biggest suggestions to control what is happening.

Unfortunatly, it is Jenson that will catch the flak from the way there customers behave, and if people are allowed to pretty much rampage the store, even if it isnt there intent, it portrays they only care about moving the stock out. I know thats not the case, but that is what the perception is.

I wanted to thank every one that has been leaving their feedback and Ideas on the sale. It is great to see this kind of feedback because it shows that you genuinely care about the event and the company. For those of you who do not know the scheduling and organization of the entire event was my responsibility. hearing your frustrations, comments and observations greatly increases my ability to make this event better in the years to come.

As for the hoarders. Many of you referred to a group of individuals in the far corner. First, if you see something like that please inform us so we can take care of it. Second it was brought to my attention about 30 minutes after opening and I confronted them telling them that they needed to get in line and buy it or leave the premises. After speaking with them I found something out I feel you should know.

They were regular customers of JensonUSA who came from Argentina for the sale. More importantly for the specific reason that much of what they buy does not make it to them. They found it much easier (and less expensive) to Fly here get some deals and escort their goods home personally.

I know that when I approached them that my opinion of them was very small, and the only thought on my mind was of getting those deals into the hands of people who were not hoarding. When I found out and verified their story my opinion of them changed. Again I found myself humbled by the fact that you cannot judge a book by it's cover. We are an amazingly lucky and blessed group of individuals to have a gov't system that we can trust and rely on as much as we do. I am sure had you know what they had gone thought to get here and what they are going through to enjoy the cycing life that we hav in their home country, some of your opinions may have changed as well.

That is not to mean that next year policies regarding hoarding will remain the Status Quo.

Again thank you for the help you are giving me Feel Free to leave your constructive criticisms, questions and suggestions.

Jared

Jared,
Thanks so much for taking the time to respond.

I wasn't at this year's sale, so I can't speak on the "family in the corner" that turned out to be legit. I do know that the same exact sort of thing has happened at the other sales I have been to, so it wasn't an isolated thing from this year.

Families standing off to the side guarding a pile of items while the rest of the clan locusts their way through the sale, or more simply put--hoarding, is common place. It is extremely frustrating and is one of the reasons I didn't go this year.

Also, I know you guys are limited by space, but maybe try to spread the sale out more. Having everything in such tight quarters makes it extremely hard to move around.

Hopefully some changes can be put in place to make future sales more enjoyable for everyone.

Thanks.

Default First Time

My first time, I was way down the line but I still got some good deals. I think that you do have to grab what you can at these sales, I did have a rough idea about what I wanted and came away with none of that.

Scored:

Sun Ringle 29er wheel set $50
Jamis Road Frame $50 (Carbon Fork and seat stays)
Hassufelt Crankset $60
Road brake set $10
Brake Levers $10
717 Rim $ 8
Ridged 29er Fork $30
Salsa Stem $15

REI do a great job at these kinda sales. It's members only for a start, which still results in a huge crowd. They also stagger the goodies, and bring pallets and boxes of stuff out through out the day, which is cool. There where some good deals I did see some hoarding going on and to be honest if my alarm had gone off at 5.30am when it was supposed to I would have been a hoarder myself.

Even though I did not end up buying anything, I had fun and appreciate the fact that jenson offers up an event like this.

If anything, i got to wake up early and hang with fellow cyclists!

It wasn't meant as a slap at you or any of the Jenson crew. Sorry if it came off that way.

My thought process was here you guys are with a bunch of inventory that needs to go. Whether it goes to 1 guy or 10 guys, it goes all the same and you are done. From a business perspective, that makes sense. It's nice to know that you guys are thinking about the shopping experience, even at a crazy sale like this.

Instead of making the focus of the day the mad rush first thing in the morning, I like the idea of bringing out new deals every so often, maybe a raffle and so on. It kind of makes it a day at Jenson versus a made rush early in the morning.

Jared,

I missed the sale this year as i was in Mammoth. My question to you is...
what are you guys (Jenson) going to do with all the left over parts? I used to always pass by the ontario store and look at the left-overs. Will they be at the Corona store? Will they be available online?

Any help would be great. Thanks in advance!

As for the sale...my brother was able to go and bought the Surly Crosscheck complete with a dent on the top tube for $300. Great buy in my opinion.

My prediction for next year: Same madness maybe worse. "They came all the way from argentina"? Wtf. Why does that matter? Because they flew all this way to take stuff back to their country to sell at inflated prices? This attitude of hoarding in the absolute same mentality as skidding on the trail or not yielding right of way. "Eff these guys it's all about me", Trail or parking lot sale works for both. I work my ass off to be able to buy whatever I want whenever I want, I just lost all hope in humanity to get myself to go to these mass sale events, if I got to pay extra to avoid the madness I'm paying! The first place I'm visiting Is jensonUSA cause they ROCK even if they run a circus of a sale. Hell I'm 20min away and I'm still getting it shipped!

Hate to tell you this, but we closed shop @ 2pm because there was nothing left. There are complete bikes that are left and are going to Corona, but as for "demo stuff" It's ALL gone.

Don't tell anyone but this is only the second time I've set this up, first time was last year. Year before that I was a customer.
(Somehow I convinced them I had experience)

My first year I got there about 11 am with the Mrs, and son in tow. Needless to say I was disappointed that I didn't get any of the "Good Stuff" so I know exactly how it feels. I am trying to figure out how to make things last all day, and be a great shopping experience. I think the biggest help in getting there is this thread and forum. I am the first to admit I am not as smart as I think I am, and am not beyond listening to others. So I am really working to make next year last long and keep more than the first people in line stoked about the deals they got.
