I scored a few rims, a talas rebuild kit, rotor adapter, a chainring, and a seat clamp. It sucks that I see the stuff I was lookin for keep walking by again and again on someone else's shoulder. As I was checking out, I saw some dude buying 7 forks!! No doubt it's going to ebay...... Kinda like the people buying up the world series tickets to turn a profit, leaving the real fans SOL.
If you don't plan on bringing a sleeping bag, don't bother going.
Man that really sucks. Not to sound like a broken record here, but the hoarders really ruin it for everyone. I know what you mean. You look at something you'd like to buy--just one thing because you actually need it, but some guy got it first--along with 6 more just like it. Totally ridiculous.

The first year I went, they were blowing out Jamis Dakar FS frames for $70--with cranks!! I scored the last one. When I saw the hoarding going on, I decided to check Ebay later. I saw one guy on Ebay selling 5 frames identical to the one I got, asking $200 each.

Same goes with forks. I saw one family buying about 9-10 forks last year. Either they own a mom & pop bike shop someplace or it's going straight to Ebay. Sad.

I probably won't be going next year. It was not worth it unless you wanted a complete bike from one of the brands sold by Jenson. They had a lot of complete road and mountain bikes though.

I almost bought a complete Slayer SXC 50 with a Fox Float 36 R on it for $2000, but it just wasn't the bike I am looking for. I ended up not buying anything.

Later in the day I went to the Path to buy the BB I needed since Jenson didn't have it in stock.

Well, since I couldn't go because I was riding the Amtrak Century I'm a little glad that it wasn't the killer sale because I really wanted to go.

BUT, I'm sorry that it was kinda sucky for those that went. It sounds like they need to put limits on the quantity of an item you can buy. 6 forks or frames is ridiculous. Limit it to one of each item and then more people can get deals and more people would be psyched.

Hopefully it will fit my schedule next year and I can go.

Ya, but just to play devil's advocate, what if they didn't sell everything because they limited what you could buy? They are probably just concerned with getting rid of it. I don't blame them for that.

I don't think we'll ever see limits. It sucks but it doesn't make good business sense to tell people they can't buy stuff. That and there will always be plenty of people still going to future sales even if all of us stop going.

And just to clarify: I'm not bashing Jenson or any of the employees. It's the hoarders that are ruining it and I don't see that there's too much Jenson could do about that.

Jenson doesn't care. They get to sell a lot of parts, whether they go to eBayers and swapmeet guys or to individual riders. A limit would be nice, but I doubt it will happen.

It sounds like there are enough people at the sales so that Jenson would be able to sell all their stuff and make more people happy. When I was thinking about limits I was thinking that Jenson might want to do it so that more people leave satisfied. I haven't been to the sale, so I don't know how many items had a lot of stock. I assumed it was a demo, scratched, one-off kind of sale, in which case you wouldn't have that many items where you could pick up 5 of the same thing.

And you're right, people are still going to go, no matter what some people on here decide to do.

I wouldn't want to go into a cluster-F like that.

Why doesn't Jenson just blow out the items on the internet? Is it transaction costs, hassle, and that perhaps in-person the customer will also purchase something else?

If people are tripling their price on eBay re-sales it seems that Jenson is missing an opportunity? But I suppose there is a cost to inventory and transactions that make it worth dumping it all in-person and clearing your stock?

the deals sound awesome, but the frustrating scene definitely isn't for me.

Jenson should give their regular customers entrance priority and the once a year hoarders/ebayers shouldn't be allowed in until after 10AM...

should be easy, send out pre-10AM invites to their regular customers.

Hey guys,
Good seeing alot of you at the event. The turnout was ridiculous this year. I was talking to some of the guys at Jenson's, and they said they already have plans to do it different next year. Probably will be a limit of what you can buy (1 dude is not going to walk out with 4 forks....) just to make it fair for everyone. Don't know the details, but expect that. But those guys do check this forum. Use it to give them ideas that would make the event great. Like bringing items out in waves, etc etc.

last year, If remember correctly before the gate opened, it was ephasized not to run.
this year most not all of the poeple at the front ran like a heard of Elmo freaks
I know it may sound carazy, yes carazy, but limit some of the "most desireable items" to a qty of 1. I saw a guy with literally a box full of Marzocchi and Manitou forks maybe 10-12 forks in the box, another guy with Two Diablo frames in his hand.
I agree, I will re-think if the event is worth it. partly because I still have to spend more money for the parts to work. Freaking Saint group lol

How would they control a guy with his 5 sons (ranging from say 8 to 15), who each want to "buy" a fork and/or frame?

All in all, it sounds like a bad deal, unless you take your "team" or extended family. Not worth it for me. I'm now glad I went riding instead. Because of the history, and the impractical limits of controlling purchasing at a sale like that, I won't likely be going to this sale in the future. The Path sales, on the other hand...

Is it just me, or does it seem that JensonUSA is taking a little flak for the behavior of the general public...no, not the general public, but rather the cycling community? Wait, that's us! I may be mistaken, but I think I'm hearing, "Hey, everything got hoarded before I could hoard it." Just an observation. If this doesn't pertain to you, then let it go by.

I haven't seen one person calling out Jenson or it's employees. Can you find the specific post for us? I must've missed it.

I don't think he's picking on JensonUSA or its employees. I don't think they did anything wrong. It's just the nature of these types of sales that irritate people.
