Default Trek/Fisher demo at Aliso this weekend

Hey all, if you're interested in any of the 2009 trek or gary fisher bikes (or just want to ride someone else's bike for a bit) they (and us folks at Jax) are hosting a demo this weekend at Aliso.

From the info on the site I'm pretty sure the demo truck will be set up at the cement parking lot at 28373 alicia parkway, pretty close to the south east dirt lot.

There are gonna be some 09 Fuel EX's, possibly including the carbon ones with new fox rp24 forks. Also there will be Fisher Superflys, hifi 29ers, and maybe even a new Roscoe or two. From what I've heard, they'll have some Trek Madones on hand for the asphalt inclined.

The demo runs from 9am-2pm on saturday, and I'll be there helping out (and riding) from 9-1 on sunday. Feel free to say hi if you're there on sunday and you see me, the bearded white dude trying to look official (or not). I'll probably be sporting a jax jersey so people know I'm working.

I'm not sure if this has been posted yet, but I didn't see any after searching around for a bit.

Hope to see some folks out there!

Have fun, I am training for the 24 hour race, Nobel Canyon, I think the Jenson sale is this week end 70 percent off.

Its kinda like propedal for the fork, with 3 different platform settings. the fourth setting is a lockout but it still will "blowoff" given enough force. I'm interested to see how they ride as its a whole new system for fox forks. They come on (and don't quote me on this) the new EX 9, 9.8, and 9.9.

i wonder... If I brought my 08 EX9, and swapped the fork for an rp24...

nah, Matt (the demo guy) would notice

Definitely worth checking out the bikes though. I think a remedy could be pretty fun at aliso, but that's not redesigned. maybe go for the newer stuff

the only redesign on the '09 remedies comes on the remedy 9. they spec it now with a talas 36 fork, instead of a 36 rc2 fork. besides that, its just the colors. either way, if anyone reads this and has any interest in riding somebody else's bikes, feel free to come out.

see y'all on sunday.

I've never been on a demo ride. How long do we get to be on the bikes? Whats considered courteous to other demo users? Do I bring my own pedals? Even a simple loop may take a little while starting from the lot.

edit - will you have printed 09 GF and Trek catalogs on hand?

You'll have adequate time to do a shortish loop around aliso, probably one up one down.

Bring pedals if you can, I'm sure there will be a few on hand though if you can't bring your own. I'm not sure on the catalogs.

On another note, I don't think they're going to have any sessions out there, bummer right?

thank god they spec'd the remedy9 with a talas. for the money, though, I still think the 8 is a better deal (and a friggin kick arse build in itself).

yeah I would definitely put my money into an eight.

Speaking of which, a 19.5" 2008 remedy 8 got ripped off from our shop today. freaking stinks, but the joke might be on him because we were waiting for a warranty maxle for it because the threads were jacked up...

Hey not sure if any of y'all made it to the demo this sat/sun but myself and trek/fisher considered it a pretty big success. We had some really good reception of the new bikes (it helped having a full size run of 6500 dollar Fuel EX 9.9s), and I got to talk to a bunch of cool guys when i was out there this morning. Unfortunately there was enough interest in the demo that I didn't have a chance to actually ride the bikes, but I felt good helping out nonetheless.

For anyone who missed out, the Jax stores will likely have an '09 demo fleet at some point (I don't really have a concrete time frame yet), so you'll get your chance. Hopefully I'll get mine too!!!!

Anyways, everything went off without a hitch, besides some thrashed wheels thanks to a random dude who decided to take a hifi 29er down telonics even though I told him absolutely not to (i.e. bike is not right for it and the trail isn't even legal). He had some scrapes to take home as a lesson for that, and I gave him a bit of grief for it when he returned (like 3 hrs. later).

Peace!

could be worse. I have a friend that cracked a Ti/carbon titus racerX at a demo that's a $2K frame down the drain.

I tried to make it so my wife could try out a GF HIFi GS WSD.
But we got there at 12:20 today so I decided to pass on the demo.

Exclamation When will Trek stop trying to build the Space Shuttle?

Glad to hear it worked out, I shined it due to spending the weekend working on my truck(got to ride the bus to work tomorrow). I'm down with supporting my local dealers but still have trouble understanding Trek's logic in their new model lineup.

The problem I see is that they are trying too hard to make the so called "ultimate bike". Ever since I listened to a lengthy presentation from their suspension guru (Jose Gonzales) which by the way did not include one picture of anyone riding a bike, I was bored to tears at a slide show that incorporated many charts, graphs and the reasons why they chose their location (which I'm sure had nothing to do with the dude living in the same zip code). Anyway my first question was durability and service intervals to which I was told 50 hours of normal riding before the recommended overhaul for the front and rear shock. Knowing that fox's turn times (which are typically spendy as well) can be less than expeditious your typical rider can expect to only have six weeks of riding for every 90 days or so.

Bearing that inconvenience in mind I threw a leg over the new (09) remedy, it had all kinds of wires and sensors on it (like race car telemetry) that kept snagging and interfering just hopping and riding the parking lot and loading docks. When I brought it back the first thing that struck me was the limited clearance for high volume tires. The answer was that a 2.35 is the max it's designed for, being a guy who prefers a 2.4 600 gram rear tire (WTB mutano) I was curious why a bike billed as a north shore/free ride machine would be limited to what I consider XC tires. The nail in the remedy's coffin is the "revolutionary" split pivot, not only must the tandem (150mm) skewer be removed to change a flat, but the owner will be limited to stock wheel sets with the same cheesy axles found on road bikes. Most other bikes in that category have the option of running 12mm thru-axle drop outs or at least the option to upgrade to a set with the much stronger 10mm QR axle found on all quality hubs like DT swiss, Hope, or hadley just to name a few.

Now we have the roscoe, getting away from the race lite Hi-Fi fisher has stepped up to the 5.5 in trail bike category. But the mark of "innovation" stains what could be an otherwise excellent ride. The split pivot also infects upgrade options on this bike, but not nearly as much as the proprietary "revolutionary" new rear RP23. It has an unsightly bulge on top that will not only intrude onto any other frame design, but also guarantee that you will not be able to just E-bay it if you Choose to upgrade to a coil. Of course you wont be doing much upgrading seeing as how both models start out at over three grand (with an octalink!!) and tier to nearly six. When pressed for some entry level options I was told to just sell the financing, I guess that a few hundred extra in deferred interest wont sting as bad as the initial sticker shock.

And what is the deal with the tapered headtube?, forget about running a 1.5 fork you might already like. Again you are stuck with a unit that will be useless in the resale market and can only be replaced with, you guessed it, the exact same unit that you had better learn to like and strip down every 50 hours. The reality for their poor dealers is most folks are not interested in dropping north of three large to go for a bike ride, particularly one that will require loads of time in the shop to keep it dialed. Performance sold a shit load of $500, 8spd warriors that are still on the trail years later with just cable and chain maintenance. I brought this up and their answer was "we will hire 100 additional engineers fresh out of college". Look folks I just like to ride bikes, and have no interest in having my own personal version of the Hubble telescope. GM is (barely) successful because their cars share lots of the same parts and have few components that other lines cannot share. Last I checked Yugo still used proprietary equipment, but you won't be able to just pick them up at the corner autozone.

Anyway glad to hear the event went without major calamity, I hope it turns into lots of sales for the entire Jax family.

Happy Trails.
