It was the Critical Mass idiots. My Fiance and I met up with some friends at the Science center, and thats where they all started from. Then we saw them again on our way to Bronx Pizza.

Its a bunch of idiots that are "Trying to raise awareness of cyclists" by blocking traffic, riding at night with no lights and no helmets, and being a PITA for motorists who get caught in the middle.

I don't think I'd like to ride in that area ... I've heard too many stories of people wearing spandex being "rear ended" there.

I tried to do this Critical Mass thing a few months ago. I hung around waiting for it to start, I notice so many people smoking the weed, drinking. Now there gonna ride at night with no lights or helmets?? I didnt feel right about the whole thing so I went home.

On our local critical mass rides helmets are required and lights aren't but most wear a rear light. There are those that sneak off and down a few beers or smoke something but they usually fade fairly fast and we ride away without them. The ones that do hang usually stay to themselves and have become fewer and fewer as time goes by. Now the LA rides are another matter and it is a traveling circus. It does get out of hand and most people attending, ride bikes at no other time then when one of these rides are put together.
I go for no other reason then to people watch. Last time there, we saw two guys get popped for DUI and the cops showed up at the meeting areas letting everyone know they'd be watching and arresting people who broke the law.

We did see a very drunk lady take out herself along with 3 other riders. One guy ended up with a cracked frame although it was a cheaper aluminum Specialized one, he was not happy. I don't get over to watch the LA rides much anymore...been there , done that.

It really scares me that all you guys who live in Riverside County know all about Hillcrest.
