Default Techno Rock (Mammoth) Gets a facelift.

Riding the gondy yesterday and today I've been watching the caterpillars out there grinding up the half pipe under the gondola. It wasn't clear what they were doing until today when some of those mounds of dirt started taking shape...

I'm guessing this is the new bottom of Techno Rock... It looks like they're trying to get it ready for the weekend. They were watering and shaping by the last run at 4:15, and it was looking like they might pull it off.

This was shot looking straight down from the Gondy, so the perspective is a bit weird...

My thoughts exactly. Yesterday I was like, "hey, they're starting to cut the half pipe a bit deeper for the snow season."

Today I'm like...... "Dannnggg. WTF? Three weeks to go and they're pulling this off?"

Yesterday it just looked like they had started in the morning.

Is it really only 2 weeks until closing weekend? So you only get like 3 months of riding at Mammoth, WTF.

The Troutstock fishing sign-up is in the Whiskey Creek Parking lot, just so you know.

I've uploaded a couple more views that should make it clear where this is:

I don't believe it is for the bike park this year. It's for the snowboard park come winter time .

Update: So we found out the scoop today. These stunts are being built especially for a new Video (NWD?) that will be shot here soon. Not sure if they'll be open to the public or not. I got some more shots today, and they were fine tuning and shaping.

Default Film Crew

Yesterday (Labor Day), the runs were looking ready, and the pro crew and videographers were out on the trail. I swear their cameras were pointing at me when I flew down Velocity (but probably not rolling). They had a pretty sweet boom setup to follow riders on the trail.

The runs were really taking shape, and a few of the riders were there doing the final shaping and watering. It would have been cool to hang out and watch them film that stuff. As it was we saw the crew getting some B-roll footage (I presume) and repeating runs on sections at the top of velocity over and over.....

For those wondering if these new features would be open to the public for closing weekend... NO!

They tore them down at the end of last week.

They had a big old jack hammer on a crane in there Tuesday through Friday, busting up big boulders, getting the half pipe ready again for ski season, as well as a huge amount of uprooted trees and limbs piled up in that area by Friday.

The gondie lines were non existent last week, temps at the top were in the high 40's to low 50's sunny and windy every day. The grooming crews were out in force Tuesday and Wednesday, cleaning up the trails from all the damage incurred over Labor Day weekend. The switchbacks from Off the Top were groomed whoop-dee-doo free. Skid Marks was a blast as usual, along with Lincoln. Mammoth Bike Park was in good shape. You can see Pacman's charts on geoladders to see where we rode.
