Default New Specialized Command Post

Mods: Can you move this to Workshop or something instead? Sorry...

Mod Edit: Moved to General Discussion

Looks like there are some more players in the remote seatpost game.

Interesting that it's going to be included on some of 09 Specialized bikes.

Quote:
Specialized announces the launch of its Command Post, an adjustable travel seatpost that gives mountain riders the ability to change saddle height with the flick of a handlebar-mounted switch.
Developed by the Suspension Technology Group at Specialized in Morgan Hill, California, the Command Post provides three saddle height options, so serious riders can change their stance mid-ride depending on the terrain and conditions—all with the flick of a switch. Its 100mm of adjustable range is denoted by three saddle positions—Power (when the saddle is at full height); Cruiser (35mm below the Power position); and Descender (100mm below the Power position).

The Command Post operates on an internal mechanical collet-based locking system with a low-pressure air actuated return spring (shown), which (set from the factory at 25psi) provides an ample return speed when raising the saddle to a higher position. The user-adjustable range (20 to 30 psi) gives riders the ability to slow down or speed up saddle rise, depending on rider preference. Rider weight simply guides the saddle down to a lower position when the remote lever is depressed.

The Command Post is available as aftermarket equipment and comes stock on 2009 Enduro Pro and S-Works models. Command Posts ship with both left- and right-handed forged aluminum remote levers, giving riders full control over their cockpit configuration. According to Specialized, the saddle mount is the standard wedge and rail clamp assembly common on most Specialized bike models; the durable aluminum tubing, 30.9mm-diameter seatpost and shaft assemblies provide years of trouble-free performance. Retail price to be determined.

Yeah. I think lots of Turner owners are waiting on a 27.2 adjustable seatpost that isn't made by Gravity Dropper.

Wow that's an exact ripoff of the Maverick / Crank Brothers design.

Anyone know yet what the price is gonna be on the Command Post? I'm liking the idea of an adjustable post I won't have to shim for my Pitch.

+1 there. I like my GD. Repeat--I like my GD. It is far from a love affair.

I called Crank Bros a couple months back to ask if they had any plans to produce the Joplin in 27.2. The lady I spoke to informed me they would be releasing one in Spring/early Summer '09.

For me personally, I'm just not that fond of it. The least important reason is the rubber dust-seal boot is a hideous eyesore. More importantly: the handlebar switch is a cheap piece of plastic junk, I am constantly having to tinker with mine to keep it working and the "all or nothing" height adjust setting sucks. Just my .02.

This would make a nice addition to the bike I'm planning to build. Hopefully it isn't too expensive.

There is no way Specialized is copying anyone's design. Just look at how the cable is routed to the top of the seatpost, totally different!

I don't give a rat's ass if it's a copycat design (it's the bike industry; this sh!t goes down all the time. stop bitching). Can anyone give an MSRP? There's nothing on the Specialized site.

I've seen this, I believe that it's not patent infringement because it uses air instead of oil to adjust, might have to look it up though.

That's not a bad deal if you consider that you'd only be able to run 1 brake to make room for that lever.

So figuring in $150 in brake savings brings the net price down to $229, which is in line with the rest of them.

I'm still interested in this one here:
