Default Bike rscks

So here is the deal. I kinda wish i didn't get rid of my truck for the sole purpose of hauling my bike was so much better. I now have a Nissan Altima Coupe and the only way I think that I can mount my bike is with a trunk rack but I don't think there very safe. Are there any truck racks that any of you like. I was thinking that maybe I can weld a hitch of some sort to my car.

I would recommend the Saris Bones. You can find them pretty easily in 2 or 3 bike options. I use one and its great but I have begun to notice that the trunk is starting to warp.

As far as hitches, you might want to look at Reese or Hidden-Hitches. They make some bolt-on hitches. Why don't you look into roof racks?

If you need a roof rack I have a whole set up that I'm ready to let go of super cheap. Almost new (as far as use) Yakima with two trays and a gear basket plus the spoiler.

When im not driving my nissan titan gas hog. I have a 2003 Honda accord v6 as my primary transportation. I thought of putting a trunk rack but I didn't want to scratch my car and plus on a full suspension bike it's tricky to mount. I have done some research and found that drawtite makes a frame mounted hitch for a $100 bucks. . It was an easy install and bought a xport hitch rack $120 that holds it by the wheels. It's great and it holds 2 bikes. I can transport anywhere without using my truck. The xport has an adaptor to mount on a 2" hitch too in case I need to transport more than 2 bikes in my truck. I'll try and post pics when I can snap some shots. Plus it's a quick removal if you don't wanna roll with just the rack. I also thought of putting a roof rack but sometimes my wife wants to roll without me and it's easy to mount up and take off.

Have you looked into a bolt on hitch? I have a small coupe and Draw Tite makes a hitch that bolts right up without any welding, cutting, or drilling.

I bought a Thule T2 and have zero regrets. It's even better than using a truck bed imho.

I recommend the hitch rack, so you don't have the "aww s#*t" experiences many people do when they forget about the bike and go under something low...like their garage. Read the threads here for a while and you'll see it happens. But if it's just the one bike to carry, a lot of cars (probably including the Altima) can fold the rear seat backs open to the trunk and fit at least one bike. I do it all the time when driving my Jetta. Not as quick as throwing in the back of a truck, but does keep it safely locked up.

Good example of a "aww s#*t" experience. My buddy with a ytruck was transporting 2 bikes in the back, they weren't tied down (which he usually does) But he did put a cable with a lock thru the wheels and hit a bump on the freeway. He looks in the mirror and seen both of his fly out and drag on the #1 lane. With disgusts and that woozie feeling in his stomach he quickly pulls over and puts the bike back in the back. When he finally got to a safe place. The only damage was a dragged pedal, ground down bar end and brake lever. Frame was untouched even at 65+ mph. Keep in mind that this bike was his wife's brand new Specialized FS Safire. I won't mention his name either (GERALD) LOL. This could of been worse. So lesson learned.... "Strap those bikes down!!!!"

I don't know what year Altima you have, but here's a hitch for a 2005 Altima:

I recently bought a Saris Thelma hitch rack on ebay ($185.00 new) and I really like it. I've had to add a couple of ratchet straps as the ones it comes with are lame but the rack itself seems pretty sturdy and it takes no time at all to secure the bike.

Like all hitch racks though, it won't do me (or the bike) much good if some idiot hits me in the arse
