Pedal? At Mammoth? Are you nuts?

Just kidding.

I'll be up there this weekend but I won't be pedaling. Perhaps the DH people and the XC people can meet up after the day's riding is over and grab dinner & a few beers.

I'll do Off the Top to beach cruiser for a warm up run and that's about as XC as I get at mammoth

My routine is to ride from the village to the summit, and try to get to the top before the first gondola. I've done it each trip this year.

Then I'll ride back down knowing nobody is in front of me, and shuttle the rest of the day.

You're forgetting the bus ride from the bottom, in addition to the gondy ride.

I usually start at 6 in the morning, so plenty of head start.

Just curious......which trails do you ride up to get to the top of the gondola? I typically roll out at 6am when in Mammoth, but have always just turned around at the adventure center or ridden up mountain view trail to minaret vista. Thanks.

From the village, Uptown to the Main Lodge, Beach Cruiser to Red's Lake, then Off the Top to the top. Usually back down the same way. It's 13.1 miles each way, 3500' of climbing/descent. The only things tough about the climb are the elevation and the pumice. It isn't as steep as the stuff we ride locally.

Sometimes I'll do the same as you .... mountain view, to the lookout, then cut across the highway and mountain view continues and hooks in to Beach Cruiser before it gets to red's lake.

Some of the photos from my last RR from August 2nd were from the morning climb to the summit.

Dean, enjoy that hike. It's beautiful up there. I'd do it with you if it were Saturday.

There's always Kamikaze (backwards). Back in the dark ages they would run the Ezakimak race. My 2nd place medal.

Only an old sick piece of jerky would climb the Kamikaze. Wanna try it mid week this week?
