Ride smoother.
Dont just bomb over everything, try to go slower and pick your lines better. I've been riding since late 2006 and i've done freeride to downhill to cross country, and even road biking, and i've yet to taco a rim, or break a spoke... Knock on wood

Dont get me wrong its very fun.
I try to pick the fastest and most fun line.
If you like going through the crazy lines, try to use your arms and legs to absorb more of the bumps rather than letting your suspension or wheels take it all up.
I snapped both internal rods in a fork once off a jump. and my wheels are still good. I've tried breaking my old wheelset when most of the spokes were really loose, and i still couldnt get them to tweak.
where do you mostly ride and what kind of riding are you doing?

i was only my third ride and i was going through the aliso woods i was kinda sitting on the bike the whole way down because i was going slow and when i got to the bottom the wheel was tweaked.

Check for loose spokes before you ride. That's the most likely cause of a bent rim.

The real question is what rims do you have and what kind of riding are you doing. It may be a case of the wrong type of wheels for your riding style.

Make sure you run enough air pressure in your tires. This helps avert both pinch flats and dented rims.

Hard-as-a-rock air pressure isn't necessary, but if you run your pressure too low, you'll pay for it. I found this out the hard way several times.

It sounds like you ride the same way I do. I tend to plow through things rather than going around.

You may want to look into a wheel set more up to the task...
