Default MTB Helmet

I’ve been riding without a helmet on a couple runs (), should have been the first thing I bought. Since I’m spending money on my bike, it’s time to put some funds towards some protection. So many choices! Which one should I get? Which helmet offers the best protection / comfort? What should I look for in a helmet? Is a full face a bit too much for trail / all mountain runs? Any input on the helmets below? Thanks for the help

1. Giro Animas

2. Bell Delirium

3. Giro Havoc

4. Giro Xen

5. Bell Variant

6. Giro Hex

7. Fox Flux

Best fitting helmets I found were the Fox and the Xen. I went for Fox second time around as it was a fair slice cheaper than the Xen. Having said that my noggin a weird shape but I always figured these things were solid polystyrene inside so a little hacking here and there cant be too bad if for some reason your head doesnt fit one so well - try not to do that of course!

Ive found that the Fox and Bell have the best fit, but the Giro Xen kind of looks the coolest to me.

I have a Havoc, but I want to get a Xen. The pads in my Havoc are shot. The padset in the Xen look a lot more comfy.

Mine is a Xen, and it is comfy. Next one will be the Hex because the venting looks better than all the others, if I don't go full face that is...

I had a Giro E2 for the past several years and liked it a lot, but recently picked up a new Xen on closeout from Wheelworld for $79 and I be lovin' the new lid.

Still, you should try a helmet on before buying. Everyone isn't blessed with the same sized and shaped 'jug'.

I have a large, fairly round-ish dome, and I have found the Giro Hex to be quite comfortable. My brains is safe!

Definitely do not get a full-face for trail runs. You will have a terrible time trying to stay cool and get adequate air intake.

I have the Giro Xen, fits me perfect and is super comfortable, and not bad on ventilation. With that said the next helmet will be the Xen again.

loving my hex!!! that said, I know some people who haven't liked it.

For the most part, a helmet's a helmet, they all meet the same standards for safety. some will have different fit systems and different amounts of venting, so I'd look for the helmet that fits you the best (first priority), and has plenty of ventilation (second priority). Once those two are satisfied (if you still have multiple choices that satisfy the first two requirements), then looks is the third priority.

get the one that is most comfortable for you. The more vents the more ventelation (sp?) i.e. cooler.... Different brands work different on different heads. They all work the same as far as safety is concerned.

Last time I shopped out helmets I tried Bell Giro and Fox. Bell and Giro seem lighter and have better air flow but the Fox fit me the best so that's the one I bought and have been using for the past year. Try them all and figure out which one hugs your dome.

Fox Flux--it kicks a$$!! Tough, ventilates well and it looks good. Although, the Xen does look great.

I can tell you that I have a Bell Delirium hanging in my garage next to a Giro Xen but I always have a FOX Flux on my melon.... Unless on the DH bike then Only Troy Lee will do

But bottom line buy what fits and fits well it is your head
