Default Are Hoss shorts a good buy?

I am due for a new pair of shorts. I read in Mountain Bike Action that Hoss makes good shorts, e.g., Ponderosa or Stallion, etc. Anyone out there sporting Hoss shorts? If so, how do you like them? Would you recommend them? Thanks.

Lots o peeps like them. They are a good value. Maybe not a bling as Pearl Izumi, but still very comfy.

I consider the Ponderosa as one of the best values out there when it comes to good MTB shorts. There may be better one's out there but it's usually almost double the cost. Just my input. BTW, I own two pairs.

I just ordered a pair of Hoss Ponderosa shorts from Wheelworld. They're on sale for $37.99. http://wheelworld.com/itemdetails.cfm?id=3500 Can't go wrong for that price.

I have a pair and absolutely love them. I actually prefer them over a pair of my Fox shorts, which cost twice as much.

Thumbs up

The shorts are comphy & cost friendly!
My favorites right now are the board short with the removable liner.
Plus, the owner is a local MTB'er, and big supporter of SHARE, and our local parks!

Good shorts.
I like 'em, and wear them more than the Fox or Oakley, which both cost more.

And yes, the owner is a local rider. Met him at El MO pitching the Poker ride last year.

I wear the Ponderosas and honestly love them.

I tried a pair of the stallions and was disappointed both in the sizing (they seem to run very small) and the light almost fragile feel of the material of the outer.

As far as the Ponderosas go I have both good and bad to say about them.

Pros:

-Good value and lots of places discount them.
-Great quality and durability.
-Nice styles/colors for the ascetically minded.
-Plenty of pockets.

Cons:

-Integrated (non removable) liner. Snags on my seat more than I think it should.
-No zipper or buttons means a pain to get on unless you have 4% bodyfat or less.
-The integrated liner is sown in at the bottom of the leg which has caused some fitment issues with Knee pads that fit higher.

All in all I would go for the Ponderosas unless you need to wear different liners (padded chamois for downhill and the like).

I own 3 pair of Ponderosas and 3 pair of their Knickers. They are sized a bit small, but other than that, a great value for a riding short. My favorite color is Urban Camo, ordered from Tree Fort Bikes. Long delivery times, they don't keep them in stock, but free shipping over $100 on orders.

Two pair of my knickers are in tan color. Somehow during riding, I always get a little black chain lube on the bottom of the knickers, so if you order knickers and run wet chain lube as I do, do yourself a favor and at least order a dark color like blue or black to hide the mess from you chain.

Very comfortable, I wore a pair on a 7 hour, 36 mile local ride with 8,000 vertical feet and a touch of Bag Balm on the areas I thought might get chaffed on such a long ride. Functioned perfectly and comfortably. I give them 5 chile's for value. I'm so over the ghey look of spandex rider shorts, it's fine for the roadies, I'm not one of them.

I love mine. The best part is you can still wear it post-ride and look like normal cargo shorts.

The bad part is that it dont make me a better rider.

My wife bought me some at Christmas and I like them but the elastic around my legs is way to tight. I'll probably just cut it out.

I have a pair of Hoss shorts (Medium, camo) for sale. Only $5. I only wore them a couple times and decided they are not flattering on females (or maybe it's just me).

Anyway, they are hardly worn so anyone who wants them just send me a PM.
