Alright, I have one. Anyone have any suggestions for hand pumps? I have sworn by my old Mt. Zefel unit for years however, it's day has come & gone and apparently they are not that easy to run across anymore.
I have been on the lookout for a bit now and seen quite a few fancy/ expensive models however, their size worries me. Tell if I am wrong however, small somehow equates to slow and painful, no? Cheers, C.K. P.S. Somehow I have managed to pull off the entire season flat free (Knocking on wood, literally....) and had a double flat on my last race as well as another flat on a roadie training ride Sat. Arrrggghhhh!

My 10-year-old blackburn Mtn Air has good volume and just keeps on working... even after all this time. I'd get another in a heartbeat.

Wrench Force makes a sweet little alloy one that I have become enamored with, high volume (telescopic), very packable and lightweight to boot. Plus it is super simple to break down for cleaning just make sure you keep it tight.

racing I use CO2.
when just mountain bike riding I use a crank bros power pump pro. Its small and light and fits anywhere, however, its not awesome at high pressure or volume. Thus I use a frame pump for road riding. |

I use a Topeak Mini Morph:
http://www.speedgoat.com/productB.as...t=15&brand=259 It's small enough to fit in my CamelBak but pushes enough air so I don't have to pump like crazy, plus the air hose is convenient. |

I'm a big fan of the morph series too. The little hose extension makes it very painless to use.

I would say get a blackburn. its the one with the red pump rod (dunno the name). very reliable, and very easy to pump. I find that it is much easier to get above 25psi or so than a normal high volume pump. sure, it'll take a little longer to inflate, but your arm won't be as tired.

I can't speak for the current version, but I have 3 of the original Blackburn Mammonth Mtn Pumps. When it comes to pumps, buy the biggest one that fits in your camel back.
Small, low volume may be easier to push, but you're strokin it almost 200 reps before you get it up to pressure. Suck it up, go big and don't make your friends wait on a pidly little pump.

I was very impressed with the Blackburn Mammoth Pump that Lee let me use when he stopped to help me with a flat. I was so impressed with it, I went out and bought one the next day. Very good pump at a very good price. It inflates relatively quickly and is easy to use.

I used to pick a pump for it's small size and weight. Then getting eaten by mosquitos/gnats while fixing flats, having my riding partners get impatient, and wearing myself out pumping, got me to reassess my pump choices.
When riding with just a saddle bag, Big Air with a Air Chuck. With a Camelback the Topeak Morph with the foot hold, just like a mini floor pump. A little big but nice to get back on the trail in a reasonable time. Dean

Another +1 for Topeak. I got the Topeak Pocket Rocket in my Camelbak:
