I'm going to be in Costa Rica in two weeks and am hoping to get in some biking. We'll be in the Arenal area for two days and also the Manuel Antonio/Quepos area for two days. In addition, we'll be doing some river rafting on the Pacuare. Does anyone have any specific areas, trails or guides to recommend? I can probably only sqeeze in half day trips.
In a previous thread Keepswhathappnes had a favorite local drink (alcoholic) that raved about, but I can't remember the name. Does anyone remember it?

Yeah I remember..They like their rum down there. My fave from Costa Rica is Ron Centenario Fundacion XX anniversary rum. It comes in a leather-wrapped bottle. It is now available in the states at Hi Times in Newport Beach since I bitched at them so long they finally started to carry it.
Also available at the San Jose airport in Costa Rica. Enjoy on the rocks or with a little Coke and lime it is sublime. |

Try PMing Steve (kanga). He was just down there for a month and did some riding. Also, try posting on MTBR (they have forums for riding in foreign countries/regions). I was in Matapalo in 2006, but it was before I got back into riding and I didn't bring a bike anyway. I've heard there's some good riding in CR.

I am heading down there in about month as well and I would love to find a day trip from Arenal and/or Manuel Antonio for some DH riding. I know there is a Canadian company (Big Mountain Bike Adventures, www.ridebig.com) that runs a 9 day DH trip in Costa Rica, so I was going to email them and see if they could help out.

Marla Streb lives there now and is building a mountain bike park. Has anyone heard how it's coming along?

Try some Nicaraguan rum "Flor de Cana" extra seco aged or reposado along with some "Joyas de Nicaragua cigars" if you smoke or for a gift. I am planing some trip to the northern region of Nicaragua for pure mountain biking ride very soon. Enjoy CR.
