Unhappy This is why I'm not a rodie

So I'm driving home an hour ago after working all night, driving east "H" st. in Chula Vista, noticed 3 mountain bikers spinning and trying to catch up with a guy on a road bike ahead of them, the roadie didn't even noticed this guys. He gets ahead of them and they go off to a nice dirt single track we call "Race Track" while the roadie and me keep going east on the 3 lined street, I also noticed a couple of cars in front of me, a grey suv and a white Nissan sedan.
In a blink of the eye the Nissan goes from the center line off to the right, over the curb and it crash so hard against a concrete light pole barely missing the bicyclist by maybe five yards!!
I stop to check on the lady driving the Nissan and the cyclist and both are ok, the first thing he said to me: "I'm the luckiest man"
The lady said that she just got off work (nurse) and fall asleep behind the wheel, "and I'm so close to my house" she said.
Check the first picture to see how close the car was to the cyclist with the yellow jersey.
Sorry about the crappy pictures, I only had my cell.
Guys be careful out there if you are a road rider, I think I stick to the dirt and only deal with rabbits.

Scary to think she was that tired right after getting off work, don't think I'd want that nurse treating me.

I'd rather ride down a dirt trail with mountain lions stalking me than on a road. You just can't predict what people will do.

Not excusable...but understandable; shortage of nurses, 12 hours days, 60 hour work weeks.

My fiance will be helping out with the shortage once she takes her Board.

As for the hazards on the road. Thats exactly why I ride the Lakes and Strand with my Fiance and any other new Road Cyclist. Traffic can be a terrible thing for new riders.

Someone failing asleep while driving can be bad for any rider.

And other drivers! Yikes close calls are scary. glad to hear everyone is ok. I'm sure that put a huge scare to all involved.

It sure it did, the guy on his bike kept saying how like he was, didn't stay that long, he turn his bike around and went home, I think he will have a new appreciation for the 4th of July for now on.

That's the exact reason why I'm not stoked to try road biking. It's completely possible (and more frequent than I'd like) to get killed out there, and have it be none of your fault. with mountain biking, It's rather difficult to actually kill yourself, and even then it's probably your fault. Sure you get bumped, bruised, scraped, and occasionally break a bone or two, but you never get killed.

I was coming back from santiago oaks today and was driving along lincoln in anaheim. There was a guy on a road bike in the gutter (No bike lane). 2 guys came flying up from behind us at about 70mph or so (40mph limit), and cut us off. One completely missed the guy on the bike, but the other guy cut across behind the biker, and came very close to hitting the guy.

That was even enough to scare my friend, who likes climbing, but dislikes descending due to a lack of technical skills, to shy away from road biking. Just too many idiots out there driving around loaded weapons

I did 78 miles on the road today. I love it and will continue to do it but maaaan... we did almost get taken out but some lady. and it was from behind. I had a chance to approach her but I would have been arrested for sure.
