Default Fire at an Industrial Building near Turnbull (Hacienda Side)

Okay so as I was driving home right now, going south on Puente Ave from the 10 freeway, I see a WHOLE BUNCH of dark smoke coming from the hills. I freak out since it looks like its really near my house/Turnbull! I call my mom, nothing on the news. As I keep on driving it looks to be too east to be Turnbull, maybe Sharbarum park? As I get closer and closer however it does not look too far away! The garbage dump hill is definately not on fire but I'm worried about the back side of Turnbull/Hacienda side!

Anyone have any details??? Anyone been driving on the 60 freeway around there??? From what I can see the thick black smoke is coming from in between Turnbull and Shabarum park, so maybe powder canyon?

I have no idea and I cant find anything on the news or online. Anyone have any details?!?!!

PLLLLLEASE don't let it be Turnbull!

UPDATE: OH THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! Sorry for any alarm my post may have caused. Just popped on the news right now. The fire is one of the industrial buildings in Industry. Seeing the smoke REALLY got me worried. WHEW!

Update #2: Fire is less than a mile from my house! It was caused by an explosion at a factory which my mom thinks is a place that recycles BATTERIES! The Hazmat team has indeed been called. So just FYI for those riding at Turnbull today, air quality is going to SUCK!!! Be careful!

I've been back there only once since our last large group ride, and really enjoyed it. Was planning to go out there maybe on Sunday...guess not?!

In that case, you should join us for the San Gabes instead.

Riding the San Gabes again this Sunday

Hop, skip and a jump from your place.

If you like Turnbull, I guarantee you'll love this. Unless of course, you have a fear/hatred of exposure.

Thanks for the heads-up. I was planning on riding there this evening. I guess I'll have to ride Fullerton instead.

Hey Pato! Was originally planning to do SG with you, but have a newbie friend and was going to take him out elsewhere. He may just flake so I'm still a maybe. Hate hearing about the PO that David has...I can feel the itchiness already! As for exposure, I don't mind it all that much...I just refuse to fall in it.

Come on out. I've got plenty of Zenfal or Tecnu, or whatever that stuff is called, for everyone.

Oh, sorry for the thread jacking Tara.

Update #3: Here's the news story from abc:

The smoke is not considered to be hazarderous

Fire breaks out at a refinery

No need for an apology for a thread jack! I LOVE thread jacks, they usually make threads a lot more interesting to read, LOL! And anyway, this thread wasn't a big deal, I just kinda freaked out when I first saw the smoke cause I'd be so sad if they closed Turnbull down right now, I've made such progress there and trying to make even more!

And oh man I wish I could decide to "refuse to fall" into the exposure... LOL if I could control that, it wouldn't bother me! LOL

Quemetco is one of my customers and believe me, EVERYTHING in the plant is BIG TIME BAD! Most of the maintenance workers even wear their masks in the office areas. They break down used batteries into recyclable materials. Whenever we pick up stuff to repair we ALWAYS wash & neutralize the pieces.

Maybe I'll see you out there. I'll be outta here in 45-60 minutes. Look for an old guy on a Santa Cruz huffing and puffing and sweating a lot.

Hey Eru,
Didn't see any other riders out there today, but I have a hot tip on trail delicacies.

The elderberries are ready to eat NOW. I'm sure that in a week the animals will have eaten them all or they'll have gone bad. On the switchbacks, there are three trees that overhang the trail so much that you can grab all the berries you want without even getting off your bike.
