Very nice. I'm assuming you know turnbull fairly well. That's the exact spot where jared went down and had to be airlifted from. He was on a hardtail I believe, it was starting to get dark, and he was not overly familiar with the trails.

sweet! thats pretty fast. i crank my pedal on the three b's all the way to the bottom and wondered how fast you could get. big differance though when you switch from a hardtail to a f/s. which is the only reason i can pedal the b's.

I was out there this morning, nice cool and cloudy, got to love that place! And speaking of the 3 b's, I think I might be able to make the last climb of the 3 on my next ride, on the last 3 attempts my foot unclipped from my right pedal at the very topand being stubborn/lazy haven't tightened up the tension yet, will give it a go again next time out with adjustments made!

p.s. as my dad always said when out dirtbiking, there's no plastic trophy at the end of the trail(after I would crash of course). Stay up on two wheels!

I have a hard time believing anyone could hit that kind of speed there. Not saying it's not possible, but I doubt it. The garmins are nice and all but they are not at all accurate.

Emergency vehicles can't drive up the fireroad to the 3B's??? Oh man that's gonna change my perspective of turnbull a bit... (air lift = $$$)

I was a bad girl today... I rode some of the singetrack solo. I tried REALLY hard to resist the temptation, I really did... I promise it wont happen again LOL

That's pretty darn fast, but not impossible. I use both a Garmin 305 and a Cateye programmed for actual tire circumference. The two computers deviate less than 1% of each other in all measurements.

I top out at ~41mph coming down the 3B's. That's with no brakes and peddling as fast as my legs can spin. Keep in mind I'm running a 34x11 top gear so with a 48x11 top gear it may be possible.

What I do find amazing is that he did 10.47 miles and only 148' of climbing. I need to learn that route.

Emergency vehicles can definitely come up the fireroad up to and including the 3B's. They just won't be able to get you down from there safely.

Yea, I know. I'm splitting hairs here. Often times access is not the deciding factor whether you go by land or air. If you are in critical condition and the nearest trauma center is too far by land then they will call in for a helicopter.

I'm not sure how it works in terms of payment and whatnot, but I wonder if it would still fall under your annual maximum deductible if you have a PPO.

You should be fine riding all of Turnbull by yourself. I think you're a strong enough rider to handle all the trails there. Besides, you a ride well within your abilities from what I've seen. You actually need to push yourself a bit more when you ride in a group and have others around just i case.

Next time you need a wingman for Turnbull give me a holler. I work and live right down the street from there.

Did someone leave the Garmin on while they were driving home???

Seriously, that is fast. I have hit 51 on Mach 1 at El Moro and 53 on the last part of Mathis. Both of these top speeds had the following in common:

1. All out - balls to the wall - decent on perfect rut free trails.

2. 20 plus years ago when few other trail users were present.

3. I was young and dumb....I mean invulnerable.

Enjoy it while you can. I hope you realize "speed kills" before it lives up to its name.

He's showing the current altitude. The climbing is labeled "ascent".

They can. I met fire trucks at the trailhead and semi-escorted them up there. Well, actually I told them where he was and then tried my hardest to ride back up asap. By the time I got to the top the helicopter was already there.

George- If you look up the word "Turnbull Locals" in the dictionary, you will see a picture of Ray and his crew!

Mr. Freak- When I saw the Garmin picture of that ridiculously fast top speed- I was thinking the person was full of it. After noticing "RAY" (a fellow Turnbull local) had posted it.... let's just say *IF* the Garmin was off- it wasn't by much!

I stand corrected. Thanks for setting me straight.

I'm so used to that field being my total ascent that I forgot to check.

Yeah, I said possible. It took me years to break the 50 mph mark and I searched for a lot of places to try this. Finally when I was doing a double century up in Davis a few guys told of the descent off of Cobb Mt where we were at. I asked my buds if they'd be willing to try it and they were up for it. Now most times these two are faster then me both up and down the hills but this day I was detiremened to break the 50 mark. I gave it everything and I mean everything and I finally made it. Topped out at 52.8 mph. I've only broke the 50 mark once since then too. Needless to say hitting that kind of speed even on a smooth paved road is some scary shit, so I can only imagine what a descent thru the dirt with dips, holes and obstacles would be like.

Thats spooky fast..... Kudos!!!!

I have two fastest speeds, Road bike 61.7MPH coming down the front side of Oak Glen. Scared the holy hell out of myself, Being a Mtn biker, My mind kept going to the...."Damn thats a skinny ass tire, if it fails this is really gonna hurt".

Mtn best speed, was coming down from Mortons peak on the fire road, 52.4MPH. I didnt know we got up to that speed, and I wont do it again, screwd my head too badly. We checked My Buddies speedo at the bottom and I just started shaking!!!! Guess thats what happens when you make a "No Brakes" Pact at the top!
