It's starting to get expensive to replace my tubes at $5 a pop, so I was wondering if anyone has any experiance with Performance's tubes? For only $1.98 they seem like a bargin, but I don't want to get stuck with tubes that start to lose air for no reason (i.e no thorn puncture).

Of course the Performance tubes aren't thorn resistant (Mr Tuffee's work well, though), but I would recommend them. I've been using them for years. If you stick to a decent floor pump, the hold air very well. Hand pumps tend to bend the valves, so I only use them in an emergency on the trail.

I have thought about leaving the 90's and going tubeless a few times. I think that I scared myself out of it every time. Maybe I am naive to the stability of Stan's tubeless, but I just picture myself with a flat tire, >10 miles from anything and no chance to fix it...or can you? Or can you just toss a tube in as a last resort? I am also sketchy about the drilling of the valve stem holes. Can anyone share additional info about Stan's?
Edit...I also meant to say that I use performance tubes too and have had no problems thus far...comparable durability to higher price tires for much less, which is great in my opinion. |

I converted to the do it yourself sealant after getting 3 flats within 2 miles of a goathead infested singletrack. Went back thru the same singletrack and NO flats. You could see the sealant working. I carry a spare tube and CO2 just in case. I'm using 2.4 Fire FR tires.

I converted my rims to Stan's for the trip to AZ.....I certainly don't want flats ruining my rides. At $1.98 I'd just buy about 10 tubes and bring em all with you
