Last Sunday when I got home from my ride I went through the same routine I've done 100's of times.
We pull up the truck and unload the gear, bring into the yard etc... Often times I have all my gear in one bag and keep my camelback separate not wanting to hassle with packing it into the gear bag too after all I'm just going to pull it out when I get home anyway. This weekend I had some time to kill while I was waiting for the guys to pick up our second shuttle vehicle so I just packed EVERYTHING up. Well someone has a lot of nice gear right now because within a short window of time my bag was stolen from my gated yard. Bag, NEW camelback, tools, helmet, shoes, clothes, gloves, pads, CAMERA... Needless to say, I will not put all my "eggs in one basket" ever again. Although it's going to be a bummer having to re-stock everything. We'll I guess now I've got my excuse to "shop the Path" Ironically my beloved 5-spot that was sitting right next to the bag was not taken, and I am most grateful for that! Oh and whoever has all my gear probably has the bonus benefit of a nasty case of Poison Oak. My clothes were covered in it! ![]() ![]() ![]()

That's the thing...you did the same thing...someone could have been watching and knew what to expect. It's easy to get complacent and then, when you least expect it...boom! (Same thing happened to us so I feel your pain!)

The horse has left the barn but it's time to have a different "unloading" sequence especially in a densely populated Santa Monica. I never show more than one item at a time and I'm with it.

That's a bummer and a sure way to ruin your day or week. I guess (as you said), at least they didn't take the bike. Obviously, they had no concept of what the bike is worth. Probably young kids who could not resist the temptation of seeing an unmanned bag within reach. Too bad and I'm sorry for your loss. Such a violation!

I always worry when I catch strangers are staring into my garage. Fortunately, it is a small alley for garage access only so no car and foot traffic except for residents.

Sad thing is they probably looked for cash and then dumped the rest. Did you do any dumpster diving in your neighborhood?? I would try...you never know. I went looking in a few dumpsters after my purse was stolen out of my car. (didn't find it but what did I have to lose?)

Lynn, i'm SO sorry to hear about this (Dean told me about it yesterday). The consolation -if there is one- is that they didn't get your Turner
. F-ing thieves... they'll pay a price, karma works in strange ways.

Unfortunately, you're not safe anywhere these days. About a year and a half ago, I was unloading my bike off the roof rack near my apartment in Brentwood. I left the front wheel against the back of my car while I did this, and some punk a$$ $hits (guessing Uni High students) ran by and took off with it! My instinct was to run after them and beat them with my softball bat. Glad I didn't because somebody could've ripped off the rest of the bike!
Sorry about the theft. I'm glad it was only the equipment bag that those scumbags took! |
