Road in this am, so much fun commuting I just wish I was faster and that the 21miles was a quicker ride so I could do it every day....
I'll be riding in all week and after this I think I'm really really gonna try and ride at least 1 time a week.

I aim to misbehave
|
When I bought my house, I paid "extra" to live in an area close to work with good routes for biking to work. Hopefully, I can stay employed there for the next 30 years or so... :-)
I am fortunate that my commute is fairly safe with bike lanes 95% of the way and relatively light traffic. I plan on commuting everyday this week (though yesterday I felt really bad and the wind was blowing pretty good...ugh). If its a nice day on friday, I might even cut out early and extend my commute and ride the bikepath along the beach before heading home. I am also fortunate that my employer provides showers/lockers at work and has fairly safe areas to lock my bike up. Sometimes it takes a bit of scouting to find a "safe" route to get to/from work and sometimes going a bit out of your way. I live in Westchester and work in El Segundo. The driving distance is probably only 3 mi or so, but when I ride the safest route for me is a total of 9 mi (to get around LAX). I finally found a good route to work when taking my truck into the shop in Torrance (Hawthorne/Del Amo Mall area) as well; again, its not a direct route though. When you commute on a regular basis, you learn to ride defensively. Making eye contact with drivers is very important when approaching intersections and driveways, etc. I've also found that riding about 3 ft from the curb (where there is no bikelane) is safer than trying to hug the gutter. It forces drivers behind you to go around rather than zip by. Sure it might piss them off, but my safety is more important. Riding on sidewalks can be very dangerous as most drivers are not looking for a bike traveling at 20+ mph. Plus parked cars can often block you from view of drivers pulling out or turning into driveways. I learned that the hardway, long time ago, when I had a near collision with a driver pulling in. Hand signals are important as well as courtesy waves to drivers who yield to you (i.e. when trying to get from the bikelane to the left turn lane). I do wish that there was a law that any new roads, 4 lanes or more, or when widening existing roads that a bikelane would be required. drc |

I am not real good at going down stairs on my bike yet. But I guess that I can bring my bike up to my bedroom the night before and then try to ride down the stairs to my office in the morning
. That would save some gas right???

I've done it for the last 3 years. I probably will do it again.

I work from home but this seems like a good excuse to take some time off and go for a ride.

Gone ridin'
![]() |
We'll be driving. I need the break on my backside, and we're heading to SB right after work. BUT, we have commuted 5 days in the last 10 ![]() There are a few people at @ that live in like Vista? They drive I think one day and then ride home the next. Some just ride to the park and ride on 76, but a few go all the way. |
