Has anyone ever seen a light weight breathable (easy to wear in warm weather) set of pads for XC type riding?
I was thinking of getting some pads to prevent the typical scrapes/roadrash and bruises on the shins and arms when taking a small fall but would only want something light, not for major falls DH riding etc.. any suggestions? Everything I have seen is major heavy duty downhill type pads. I was actually considering taking my leg and arm warmers putting some mesh vents or holes in them and then adding some sections around the knees and elbows with small areas of hard plastic???? Maybe I should just stop falling into the bushes ![]() |

You could check out the 661 Veggie Knee and Chicken wing. They only protect knees and elbows, though. Very minimalistic.
Somewhat pricier is the 661 d30 stuff that just came out. May be lighter? Still just elbow/knee. For my "XC" riding I think knee/shin and forearm/elbow guards are kind of overkill, but I've worn them before to feel more comfortable. I don't think anyone local has a great selection of gear. You could try Bicycle Warehouse, but aside from that - Path in Tustin has a great selection of gear, as does Jenson, and Beyond Bikes. |

Great idea. I will start doing the same thing and wear warmers (minus the swiss cheese holes) because it's a pain in the @ss trying to shave around minor cuts and scrapes.
Might try the light duty elbow/knee guards if that still isn't enough. That just made me hungry!

And the little shit at Vons was trying not to sell me the scotch. He figured something was up cause I was limping and bleeding. So maybe I do need guards. |
