Default 4 runner vs Tacoma vs F350

got rear-ended today. fully loaded F350 hit a tacoma which hit my 4 runner.

surprisingly the bike frame did not crack, but the rack and the car frame were damaged. car only had 5000 miles on it too.

tacoma got sandwiched and sustained a lot of frame damage: truck bed crooked, bent axle.
F350 had a bent hood, bumper, grille.

Sucks man. Hope it gets resolved quick - ins.cos are a pain in @ss no matter who's at fault.

Despite no visible damage, I'd replace that frame. Who knows if there's some microscopic damage or if the frame was tweaked out of alignment. If the force was sufficient to crack the fork, I'd be wary of that frame.

Hope it all works out.

That's next on the 57S next to the Imperial Hwy exit isnt it? That sucks about what happened. I hope everything gets taken care of quickly. I guess that's one good thing about having a roof rack.

Ohhh man...that is a very very bad Monday. Hope your back & neck are feeling alright. You have one year in Calif to file a lawsuit if the insurance settlement isn't satisfactory. Since my neck is still screwed up about five years after being rear-ended, I advise waiting out most of the year to be sure you're OK before settling.

thanks everyone. about 5 min after this accident, there was another accident involving 4 cars in the same exact spot (imperial, 57 S). fortunately nobody was injured.

the hitch took so much impact that it's slightly bent and the car has a tendency to go right now. without the hitch rack, there would probably be a lot more rear frame damage.

I have a 4Runner also. Kind of funny because its in the body shop this week.

2 months ago I was rear ended, not as bad as you but my tow hitch took most of the impact. The others car was completely trashed by my hitch. That thing is pure steel.

Sorry to hear your brand new 4Runner got smashed! Mine was a 2000.

Hey Michael,

I'm very sorry to hear about the bad news.

I hope you can get your 4-Runner fixed without too many insurance problems and you get your bike rebuilt soon.

P.S. Hey, I knew that Komando frame was rock solid! I though you told me during the ride with Grant that you just purchased that fork.

I guess this means you will need a new bike and we will not see you on the upcoming afterwork Aliso and El Moro rides.

Nevertheless, I hope you can get your 4-Runner fixed without too many insurance problems and you get your bike rebuilt.

nope, wasn't me. that bike was all stock. the frame didnt bend but welds probably cracked. pedals and cranks still spin freely. both wheels bent. the bash guard actually held up.

I have a friend who drove under a parking structure at MV Mall with his bike on top of his Lexus SUV... and he was so scared when he felt his car shake and a very loud popping noise. He hit the structure and it ripped off his bike and part of the roof rack. It damage the top back of his SUV. After that day, he told me that he will never use a roof bike rack again. If I show him your pictures, I don't think he will use a rear rack, too.

P.S. I owned a 4-Runner before and I was hit from behind. That power rear window cost a fortune to replace. Thank God for car insurance.
