Ouch! That's the very reason I'm going with a roof rack.

Your hitch rack seems well made; I noticed that the weld didn't crack even though the base metal is twisted like a pretzel.

Best wishes for getting everything back in order.

I don't have a garage to park in at home, so that's a non-issue.

At the same time, I'll have to make sure I don't use the parking structure at work when there's a bike overhead on the roof rack.

If my bike gets mangled, I'd much rather it be from my own stupidity than from some jackass who didn't hit his brakes in traffic.
