Earthquake at 04:58

Anyone else feel it? Just hit us and woke the little guy up

Seems I am talking with my self AGAIN but thats cool.

I suspect no one else will feel it since it was local and only a 2.2

5.5mi ESE of Piru, probably the Simi-Santa Rosa fault, I am not sure if there is another one around there.



Interesting, it happened just a bit after the quake in China ...

Nope, I was busy sleeping but it seems earthquakes are hitting a little everywhere lately...just a matter of time for the big one.

That looks like it was pretty close (less than 10 miles away) to me, but I was sleeping like a rock this this morning.

The 1992 Landers earthquake triggered a swarm of earthquakes in Yellowstone, and also triggered the good-sized Big Bear EQ that occurred only a few minutes after!

i moved to moorpark from michigan and have lived there for 6 years and felt ONE earthquake and it was tiny. like i had to confirm it was an earthquake. just moved to sherman oaks not to long ago now and still...nothing

You sound... disappointed

Don't be. A strong earthqualke like the 1994 Northridge event is not something you want experience, especially as a resident of Sherman Oaks.

A friend of mine at the time had moved out here from Chicago. He was in one of four cars that managed to come to a stop before going off the front of this collapse. He abandoned his vehicle and along with the others, scrambled off the back section before it also collapsed. His Ford Ranger pickup was stranded up there for several days before a crane picked it off and returned it to him. He saw cars plunge off the front of the collapse before he came to a stop just before the edge. He has since moved back to the midwest (Minn.)

I was there too, in Granada Hills (they say we felt it the hardest) and how ironic that 6 months later I moved to Minn, for 13 years

I have felt one good one since i've moved back to So-Cal and it took a few mins to catch my breath. I don't ever want to feel another one like the Northridge Quake again

Yes....I'm glad that my relatives/friends are back state side before it happened but sad for those who are lost or hurt. I was reading that China suffered a similar fate in 1976. A quake took 1/4 million lives.

I believe the Santa Susana Fault is the same as the Simi, are they not?
It is the same fault that crosses rocky peak about 6mi North of the 118.

They are definitely not the same faults. The two faults may merge at depth (many faults do).

Thanks and you are correct. I went and looked it up and this is what I found

"Simi-Santa Rosa Fault Zone - The Simi-Santa Rosa Fault Zone consists of a series of closely spaced faults that extend in an east-northeast direction across the central part of Ventura County for a distance of more than 25 miles. In the Moorpark area, many small faults have been mapped within the fault zone, as well as several fault splays that branch off the main faults to the northeast."

"Santa Susana Fault - The Santa Susana Fault merges with the Oak Ridge Fault in the west and the San Fernando Fault zone in the east. The fault is located about four miles east-northeast of the Moorpark area."
