Found these videos and was wondering if anyone was into trials or flatland...any secret societies out there?

I have dabbled in trials a bit, but I havn't gotten very far. I would really like to get a bit better, since it teaches you to really use the bike to do what you want, rather than just going along for a ride.
IIRC, Tani at the Path rides trials, but hasn't for a little while. perhaps check with him |

Start with small basic things and work up from there. One doesn't start by learning the "big" tricks. Full protection gear is helpful, but I can assure you that most people don't wear it. I started doing flatland stuff back in the mid 80s, but never really continued to develop. No, my bike wasn't a neon color, but it was purple and white.

Those were some sick vids, the fakie nose wheelie down hill was insane!! I used to ride trials and BMX flatland stuff as a kid and I know it really helped my slow speed balance and weight transfers.
It translates nicely into MTB when climbing slow technical sections. You start to think more about balance and shifting weight instead of dabbing.

I did a little trials/urban riding when I was a bike messenger in LA. There were groups from other messenger companies who would meet up and goof off.

By flatland/trails I thought you meant riding around a path in the dirt on a flat piece of ground... not city riding and curb hopping stuff.
I can see where I'll need a bigger spare bedroom / toy storage area soon... I really don't need another bike but a BMX style bike does look cool.

Ahh full leathers and Vans. Those were the days. Haha you old farts JK.
I rode BMX street stairs handrails manuals etc. And dabbeled in the flatland when we were bored. It really does help the thought process when climbing tech stuff. I think that's why I picked up MTB so fast. |
