Definitely will fit for a car camping trip. definitely NOT for a bike packing trip. They say the weigh around 18 lbs. But they convert into a lounge chair by day, tent by night. I may be getting one for my upcomming Oregon trips.

Not cheap, but you'd almost pay as much for a tent I'd think.

239 for the double
those things are schweet, but for the price you could get a small tent unless they significantly raised the prices of tents i do think those are neat though

The raised floor would be really nice. It only takes a few irregularities on a sleeping surface to make for a miserable night's sleep.
It would also keep you up off the ground in case of rain storms, but we all know it never rains in the mountains or in Oregon... NOT! The first ten times I went backpacking, it rained every time at some point or another. Taught me well to prepare for and expect rain anytime you go into the mountains even when there is no rain in sight at lower elevations. Preparing trenches for your tent every night can be a PITA. I now for sure I'd need one of the four legged models. I've popped too many wheelies sleeping on the old school banana chairs that only have two supports. YMMV. |

My son has a few of them. Semi comfortable. I could still feel the braces, but it wasn't as bad as sleeping on the ground. With it being elevated it tends to stay colder on the bottom. It was in the teens that night and I was using a summer bag, about 2 am I got up and climbed back into the trailer. It was like 100 degrees in there, but I slept for the rest of the night.

You should consider a Hennessey Hammock. They are very light and can be used for bike camping. They're also VERY comfy as well as great in heavy wind and rain.

I have seen a few of those cot/tents on my Hummer camping trips and they look awesome. The guys that use them love them. I would definitely get one in the future.
I just use a Coleman 4 person tent ($45) and a big military cot ($80) whenever I go out. It can be a pain to carry around on trips though. |
