Default Whistler park opens May 17th

Just got this note in email...merely passing on

Someday I'll make it there for dirt...have only been there in the winters for boarding

Whistler Mountain Bike Park Opens May 17

If you've been eagerly waiting for the Whistler Mountain Bike Park to open, the anticipation's almost over. Opening day is May 17!

Even though Blackcomb Mountain is still open for great spring skiing until June 8, bike park crews are hard at work on Whistler Mountain getting the trails ready for those adrenalin-fueled, gravity-fed thrills you've been dreaming about.

Book your 3-night, 2-day bike park package from just $214* per person, and be one of the first to ride the park trails this season.

In the meantime, enter the Catch The Epic Ride contest for a chance to win instant prizes and a grand prize draw for the Ultimate Whistler Bike Vacation for two. Full details available at whistler.com/contests

We have made 4 trips to Whistler and decided to go to Angel Fire this year instead. I'm already having withdrawls.

WOW!!! That place looks beautiful. Even if you don't plan to go there for a week of biking there are so many things to do. I think I want to plane a trip soon, very awsome

Hopefully garbonzo will be open by then - there was a ton of snow this year!

If you get tired of the park there is a ton of great trails in the valley like Comfortably numb, and in Squamish too.

So you guys drive all the way up or fly? How much to get a bike up there and what do you pack it in.

We always drive and haul our own bikes. Last year we took both DH and AM bikes and did some trail riding on the way up.

Last year, I flew up. The bike went with me on the plane, no problems. Cost an extra 50 bucks. On the way back, the guy checking baggage asked me "what's in the box" I told him it was my Santa Cruz Bullit and that I had just come back from riding Whistler. He waved the charges!

I was a little scared to fly it up with me. Luckily I had no problems. I would rather have MY bike instead of renting one.

I took my bike to my LBS before I went and had them pack it in a box really nice. That was 45 bucks, I think.

Riding Whistler is a dream come true...if you get the chance to go, DO IT!

Not the best picture but you get the idea!

Good to hear flying with a bike is doable. That will make a trip up there if I decide to go much easier and actually cheaper.

I can't wait to go again this year. The riding up there is so incredible.

Here's our report from last year's trip:
