if Lance had half a brain, he'd open the shop up in West LA where all of the shop's suck and deserve to be put out of business by a better competitor... plus it's a large affluent market, plus he spends a lot of time here, plus all of his anorexic actresses are here

Plus it'd be nice to have a shop open at a reasonable cycling time, like 7 or 8 a.m. here.
He's going to score with that opening time!
UC Cyclery in San Diego opens at 8 on Saturdays for the local club ride to meet, greet and roll. They put out banana's and water and a pump and have a mechanic on hand just in case!! Thats really accommodating the cyclists. If I opened a shop, my hours would be 7 to 4 at least one of the weekend days. Of course it would help to be in a more cycle friendly community.
I think he's got it dialed helping everyone from the commuter to the pro. I think it'll be a very good lbs!

He grew up in Texas and I'm sure he wants it to be near his home town of Plano.

And its much more than just a bike shop, http://www.austin360.com/recreation/...4bikeshop.html

imaine having all that taken away by someone who doesnt even need to be there?

sorry for your time, rant over.

Somthing tells me that you don't like Lance Armstrong. You know, he has every much of a right as any other shop would posting up next to mine. How do you know Trek does not give a second thought about the independent guys????

He has just as much right to open a shop next to someone else's, but generally that new shop wouldn't be able to pick up a line like Trek's if someone else down the road already had it. Manufactures just don't usually work that way because they have agreements with the dealers.

Lance is getting preferential treatment because Trek realize there's a huge marketing advantage. Unfortunate for the other shops but also a wake up call that maybe they should pick up another line other than Trek.

IMO Oakley is a joke now. It seems to me that they are worried about the next Oakley golf shoes or $800 Oakley golf bag. I think Oakley in a whole has forgotten their roots what built that company up. I remember all the old school BMXer were buying up the Oakley Factory Pilots because they looked cool and they were bomb proof. Well now the old school BMXer are the with money mountain bikers. I know they have a MTB line but too me for the money people spend on Oakley the quality is crap.

For example I have some Oakley MTB shorts about a year old and I ride in these shorts proberly at most once a week already the chamois is falling apart and the middle seam on the outer shell of the shorts are unravelling. I need to sew these puppys up. My issue is this if Oakley has a suggested retail on these shorts for 100 bones these bad boys better be bomb proof.

Oakley is trying to spin too many plates and needs to focus back again on quality. I think people see ohhh its Oakley it must be good but in realty I can go buy some Hoss shorts for 1/2 the price and have a better quality short.

After looking on Trek's website under the "Find a Dealer" section, Austin has 3 Trek dealers in the city limits, 1 more within a 50 mile drive and 8 more within a 100 mile drive totaling 12.

Interestingly enough, all those shops are Specialized dealers as well. Something tells me they'll all co-exist just fine.

This looks to be a new kind of store, a concept store. He's really talking about doing something good for the community. He's not doing it to make a buck. And he's definitely not doing it to put people out of business. It appears to me he's doing it to promote bicycle riding.

I've been to a couple of his talks and I even got the chance to ride with him (twice last year) and the guy is really about a better world. He's a smart and articulate, and a very nice guy.

I think this store is a great idea.

Great point. Remember everyone........this is still a bike shop!!!! Not the preferred business for the profit-hungry. He really does want to help the community as well, from what I read.

I love the shower and changing area, plus a coffee shop?!?!? Yikes, I'd be there all day (possibly through the night, as I could just shower in the morning--if it's that time of year).

It really sounds like much more than just a bike shop, and you all know that our wallets would be stuck at the LBS' more if equiped with the food, beverages, etc!

Talking Austin

Lance is a lot like Hillary, either you love him or you hate him. But having lived just North of Austin for almost 10 years, I can tell you that he has done A LOT for cancer research, for cycling in general, and for Austin in specific. His shop would do a great business no matter what he sold or how big/small his shop was. The Lance-lovers will go there just to go there. Kinda like we go to Moab and Fruita. And the Lance-haters will go to the other shops in town just to stay away from Lance's shop. But I got a hundred bucks that says even the Lance-haters will go to his shop JUST ONCE, in drag if need be, just to say they've been there and be able to say just how much it was over-hyped, over-priced, over-this, or over-that.

Business is business. And I say there can't really be a down side to having too many bike shops from which to choose. Just my $0.02...
