Default An Affair is in the Air! (SS Love)

Ok, so I have been wanting to jump on the SS bandwagon and unfortunately my financial situation prohibits another bike. So instead, to try it out I got a conversion and went for it with my HT that has been sitting second fiddle to my FS bike. All I have to say is WOW!

So last night I stripped the bike of its derailleurs, shifters and cassette (unfortunately, the front rings will stay until I can get some spacers or rock ring). I chose a cog, spaced it out, adjusted the tensioner and presto-changeo...converted SS.

Today, to test my new steed, I ventured to Aliso and right off the bat was wishing I had gone smaller on the cog (not for long though). I was spun out immediately on my downhill ride to the park. It wasn't until I began up my first climb that it was a wise choice for a first timer. I continued onward and upward, having so much fun without worries of shifting and such I was out there a better part of my day.

Here was the route:
Wood Canyon to Dripping Cave, up Mathis to TOTW, down Mathis, back up Mathis to TOTW, down to and down Cholla, up Cholla, down Cholla, Coyote, Dripping Cave and out to the Ranger lot. I cleaned it all and never had to stop (no lie) and it felt AWESOME! I am now a SS believer and it was the best $21.99 investment to bring new life to my HT and give me a new training tool. Shhhh...don't tell my FS

OMR is right, you can only get faster and stronger...AMAZING

Nice. Welcome to the SS sickness.

You can buy single cog chainring bolts for the cranks instead of spacers or bash ring. They aren't as long as traditional bolts and can be had for a few bucks. Works good and saves a little weight too.

A-freaking-mazing! Your dismounts for hurtles must be a choreographed effort...maybe you just bunny hop them

So far I (stoker) have figured out how to dismount/remount while under way... Then I run while pushing.

This is what we are trying out on the hills...

More to come

Aah, I was wondering when the tandem was going to make an appearance. You guys are crazy, but the bike turned out great.

Awesome. I need to see this thing in action in real life. Are you preparing already for next year's Hill Climb Challenge Hoovermd?

R. Rich nice bike! That thing must be way light. I agree with the above. $5 Singlespeed bolts for the front chainring would be a nice touch.

Cool bike. If you find you are having trouble with chain skip you can help solve it by running your tensioner in the "push up" poistion vs. the "push down". Have fun, pretty soon you'll find that all you ride is a SS and you'll be looking for a SS specifc frame. Seems to go that way
