lets keep those threads on topic...we have the pub and/or general discussion to discuss other stuff....is it that hard?
Just my $.02: You guys need to lock responses in the marketplace, and let all the business go down via PM. I've seen a similar evolution occur at another site, and works very well.

The other site locked responses, and then you were required to PM a mod for a price change bump, or to close the thread if sold. Responsebility for maintaining the thread passed to the seller, rather than the mod to keep the BS out.

You probaly know all this already, so don't mind me .

or they can move the marketplace to it's own section/tab... ie MTBR classified and not make it part of the forums. don't count new posts/responses to users' Unread Posts counts and no one would be the wiser... then it won't klutter anything up and there shouldn't be much need to monitor it. emptybeer has message posting in the classified there and you don't see it getting out of hand.

how bout we just lock the for sale thread and then everyone can PM the seller with inquiries? that way the thread can never get derailed...

yup, that's how I do it.
Make more money in the long run though. People get freaky at the end of the auctions. Bad for them and good for me.

You're welcome ricky.

Thanks spookydave.

Anyone remember socalmtb.com? Anyone remember its downfall? Other than most of the asshats there, the real downfall was when they changed bulletin board software. We all know what they say about history.
Does anyone know someone starting a new mtb board? Now would be the time!

Ebay here I come!

for me the downfall of socalmtb was only the asshats. I must have left before any bb change.

I think a separate message section in the market place postings would be great, all I know is that some of these changes aren't improvements they are just changes lateral moves at best
by telling people to keep all opinions/thoughts/comments out of the marketplace you are essentially making it craigslist on STR I think people post some things there in hope they will recieve some feedback/reassurance etc...
and like posted earlier we don't need a new post to go along with every classified, its not like the actual ad is messed up by any of the comments anyways, because the initial post is always the original "for sale". All of this policing is taking away from the relaxed nature of the site and is already starting to drive members away

so much angst over the marketplace....i'm done trying to 'moderate' peoples posts who repeatedly break the very basic rules of the marketplace and then get upset when their post gets the gas-face...

this thread was created as a simple reminder to new users of str, and in typical fashion, it has gone arry...

isn't that just a product of the way the website has been run/dictated?
