Default checklist collaboration

This is for the Dell's of the world.

Neccros recommended this thread - basically lets collaborate on a checklist for biking.

I was thinking of making checklists in categories such as epic rides, shuttles, average rides, road rides (), etc.

Here's my quick list of suggestions for an average ride (~2hrs)
  • helmet
  • bike clothing
  • shoes
  • gloves
  • camelbak w/ water (I use my mule)
  • 1 tube (some may opt for 2)
  • mini-pump (or CO2 w/ catridges?)
  • patch kit
  • small multi tool with hex's
  • 1 powerbar (or other energy bar of choice)
  • optional: I carry a small first aid kit
  • cell phone if you have one (might not get reception, but just in case)
  • 40 oz malt liqour
  • boom box w/subwoofer
That's all I could think of.

I always carry some Aleve/tylenol, nothing worse than a headache on a long ride. Also always carry some chapstick......and sunglasses are pretty important also

You forgot:

Pepper spray, pocketknife or survival knife just in case the animals want to get too close for comfort.

Carry 3 tubes, you never know, you might have to lend one out. I've seen too many pinch flats and broken valves after the first flat.

All of that stuff plus a compass, flash light, bic lighter, space blanket, knife, extra chain links, duct tape, zip ties, cleat bolt and dollar bills to make a tire boot.

On longer rides, I also take a water filter and a shell with my leg and arm warmers. Maybe a little carbo foods, 3-4 packets of Ener'gen-C. And in areas I do not know well topo maps and GPS.

I normally ride alone and many times away from the beaten path.

I carry a spare derailleur cable. Been on several rides where buddies had to abort due to snapped derailleur cable. Also a brake cable when I ride my bike with rim brakes. Might also want to carry a spare spoke (I tape it to my pump). But be sure to keep it compatible with new wheels when you change. I saw Endo Verendo carrying a product called Wound Wash that looked like a decent idea for more technical rides. I carry a foaming-type antiseptic from Band Aid that's seen some use (any time I ride with Armando it seems.... Another handy thing is small packaged wipes.

It's going to sound a little strange, but I like to have a small unopened tube of crazy glue in a baggie for long epics.
It can be used for bike repair, but can also be used to close a cut after you use that foaming antiseptic.
Safe, non-toxic and durable. It can get you down the mountain.

you know the first time i did the palm canyon ride, one of the guys had a camel back that weighed like 26 pounds....everytime we needed something he ended up having it in a multi tool....maybe i should find out what it was because when we finished the ride turns out he didn't have any small packaged wipes, but he did have a kitchen sink

I don't worry about derailleur stuff, I mostly single speed, besides it is easy to turn a geared bike into a single speed after a mechanical.

Yes, sometimes a camera.
