Hey, I resemble that comment!

I have two prepared setups that I take out depending on the ride.

Short/local rides:

* Small (70oz) hydration pack
* Multi-tool (Specialized EMT Mini, includes chain tool and Torx key)
* CO2 inflator w/2 cartridges
* Spare tube
* Peel-off patch kit
* SRAM Power Link
* LED flashlight
* "Tactical" pocketknife (a big, locking pocket knife)

Long/out-in-da-boonies rides (what I had out in Palm Canyon, Noble Canyon, and even today's Strawberry Peak, although it was definitely overkill for today):

* Large (100oz) hydration pack w/high cargo capacity
* Allen key set (flip-out format, bought from Kenda at a National for $5)
* Multi-tool (Ritchey CPR-9, stock "handle" replaced with a Torx key)
* Tire pump
* Shock Pump
* Spare tube (or two, depending on trail)
* Peel-off patch kit
* SRAM Power Link
* Zip ties (4 to
* Chain lube (small vial)
* GPS unit (Garmin eTrex Vista, with AA 2500mAh NiMH cells)
* LED headlamp (Black Diamond Zenix IQ, with AA 2500mAh NiMH cells)
* FRS/GMRS radio, 12 mile max range, water resistant (Cobra PR4700, with AA NiMH cells)
* AA 2500 mAh NiMH cells, spare pair (notice I have standardized on AA cells?)
* Survival tool (compass, whistle, waterproof container w/waterproof matches)
* First aid kit, waterproof
* Water filtration/purification system (either a Katadyn Hiker pump-type or Katadyn Exstream bottle-type)
* Space blanket
* Waterproof/windproof jacket
* Fleece layer or thermal compression shirt or short-sleeved jersey
* Lycra legwarmers
* Energy bars (2 or 3)
* Beef jerky (after a few tooth-achingly sweet energy bars on a given ride, you'll be craving this)
* Energy gel (3 to 5)
* Extra water bag w/water (sometimes)
* Pepper spray
* "Tactical" pocketknife
* Cellular phone
* Identification, credit cards, and cash

I have two separate setups since I'd forget half the things on that long-ride list if I had to pack it every time. And I usually have to prep the night before with charging all those batteries, packing in both the clothing and food, setting GPS waypoints and then loading them (and maps) into the unit. The pack is actually not as bulky as it could be since care was taken to select items with the best performance-to-mass-ratio, and things are as compacted within each other as much as possible.

Friends I ride with tend to suffer mechanicals as a rule, and I have this strange tendency to get lost alone, even in the course of a group ride (!), and it always seems to encroach on nightfall. I once got so lost I spent four hours fumbling in the moonless dark, and only got out when a nighthiker (!!) ran into me.

Geez dTew are you going on a reconnisance mission or something!?

List:
Pocket bike wrench.
Spare tire
Small First Aid
Bike pump
2 Banana's

I don't know, if they really did have a hotwing flavor, it kinda sounds nasty. I mean, powerbars already taste like crap.

I think that we have discovered a niche market.
Anybody want to start a business?
