Talking Vintage bike ride....???? I know they're out there...waiting...watching...

We've done Newbie rides (no one left behind), we've done Halloween rides (spooky men in basic black), we've done hammer rides (VQ/CC, Traverse, etc..) I think it's time to do a vintage ride. We have a lot of older bikes sitting in garages that never get used anymore. It's time to give back to them! How would you like it if you have been originally fawned over, polished, kept squeeky clean... only to be replaced by a newer model ... and finally relegated to a dark corner in the garage... no longer able to run free on wonderful,
waiting single track.

This needs to change ... we need to give back to those that gave us so much joy in the first place. Hense, a vintage bike ride. Bring out of the dark into the light those old frames... pump up the tires, oil that chain & adjust the brakes. Old things need love too! I know this for a fact!!!

I have an old Mantis ProFloater that still rides very well.

Sooooo, let's pick a place that has a relatively flat area to ride with a few hills thrown in for good measure... say like Aliso Woods... and afterwards have hamburgers and copious amounts of that liquid amber beverage so loved by most. Shoot for a Sat in May or June and make it happen...

Whatcha think tribe?

Oh I have a vintage MTB that I can bring out. The problem is I am so used to all the new technology of bikes that makes certain technical riding easy. I may forget what kind of bike I am and get hurt and that would ruin my chances of me being a male hand model.

I think that any bike that's over 10 years old is a vintage bike (the technology moves so fast these days)

Great idea OMR! I have a special dual suspension if I can get it shipped to me, anyone remember Balance Bikes FS Pro? This was my DS/DH rig, vintage to me, I'm a young grasshopper. If anyone has a Girvin Pro-Flex or even a flex stem I'd love to see one of those again.

I had a Pro-flex for a while, 985 I think? It had that weird fork, forgot what they called it.. Anyway, the frame was really nice but the fork was super flexy and those little plastic washers and bushings needed constant attention. I replaced it with a Manitou II. I had a flex-stem for a while too (with the skateboard bushing suspension) those things were like 10 lbs and didn't even help that much.

This vintage thing sounds fun! I still have a few oldies sleeping in the garage, a 93 Stumpy M2 (old King headset, ti bolts, old bonty rims, anodized stuff) and a 96 Stumpy M2 converted to SS that I still ride.

Good idea Gregg. Maybe I'll ride in cutoff jeans, t-shirt and some Chuck Taylors for the full effect.
