Hit me.

I've been through FOUR of these.
First one I bought from Geoman: -didn't work out of the box (unit #1). Nice. -frozen screens, on/off button not functioning(unit #2), -inability to acquire a satellite even after 2 hours of riding (unit#3), -partial (or no) ride files (unit #4) -and finally...their Training Center software started dining on all of my ride files. Nothing left now. F*ing things were babied and still didn't work. So, who wants to buy my 305?

Wow I already have the 205 but at that price from GeoMan I man get the 305. I wish I would have bought the 305 but I got my 205 at such a deal on craigslist. Hmmm what about the new 705 I think it is? I know thats pretty expensive.

I don't think so. I've been on many rides where it says my top speed is like 17 mph and I know I went faster than that. I stopped even looking at it after awhile.

All brand new, according to Geoman and Garmin. Vast majority of people I've talked to, have had similar positive experiences too. So I was thinking I was the one person on earth that had issues with these things...until I talked to Rock'N'Road in Laguna Niguel. They were laughing about how many were getting returned. Possibly a bad run at the plant? For me this was over a two year timeframe so I tend to rule that out. Maybe a disgruntled UPS driver drop kicked each one, who knows. Again, no crashes or even a scratch on any of them. Gets tough when you keep having to call the manufacturer and they tell you "we've sold thousands of these with no problems". Ok, so shut up and send me my fourth one will ya. Rant off.

I had issues with my Forerunner 301, and I believe most others did as well. The HR strap *never* worked. Justin was ready to run over the unit with our Tahoe, but luckily a friend said since we'd bought it at REI we could take it back for a full refund. We did. I got the last Edge 305 they had at the store (in Grand Junction) and it was fine until I crashed on the screen. Garmin has it right now.
Justin got his I forget where... I think Fry's? No issues other than he used to keep it charged, so the battery life kind of sucks. |

So i see there is the option to get the Garmin 305 w/ speed/cadence sensor, a bundle with a heart rate monitor and lastly a bundle with both...any feedback on whether you really need both or is one better and more useful to a MTB rider than the other.
Basically, will the unit work properly with only one bundle?

So, um, no. Cadence is not really useful. I like the HRM for training and info. |

i just used my 305 today for the first time that i got from geoman. it's great. i still had my old computer on the bike too and the speeds were real close, almost the same, and i don't have the cadence hooked up with mine. it's very cool, i love my new toy.
