Default What Trail Max's Your Heart Rate?

Post up- which steep incline tends to redline the HR?

Me- it's the climb out of Santa Anita Canyon to the Chantry parking lot after doing Hoegee's, Zion, or Rim/ Newcomb's.

Back in the early 90's (when I was 35), raced a friend to the top and hit 193.

Last nite, raced a friend to the top and hit 182!! (I am 51.......

Not saying I am fast, just can heart beat fast.

So ~~ where? how high? how old? how hurt?

Any climb can max my heart rate if I try to do it fast enough. Hammering the Fully Loop hard enough would max my heart rate.

Yesterday, I maxed my heart rate climbing up the Main Divide from Beek's Place towards Eagle. I don't have a HR monitor, but when I hear my heart beat in my ears or in the back of my neck and start to feel drained, I feel like I've hit my max. This happened several times on the way up past the golf ball.

BTW I am 28 years old, 6' 0", 220 lbs.

I hit my highest XC racing (Southridge).

I think my HR strap battery was dying a bit ago cause it kept saying 200 and I don't think that was correct.

Other than that I'd probably have to research

WOW. 200 is doable, but WOW. superwoman.

I'm 32, 6', 198 lbs. My heart rate will hit a consistant 175 in a race, but I need to work on the recovery time. I'm trying to get it down from 175 to sub 100 in a few minutes. I only hold that rate for a wee bit. I know you XC folks will maintain that for hours.

Respect.

I usually find my highest heart rate when road riding, and generally when we are trying to pull a really fast pace line. not sure exactly what it was, but thats when I feel it.

I usually hit between 196 and 199 during a group training ride in the Pasadena/Sierra Madre area.

It's on the road/pavement, and it's probably only about a 4 percent grade, but you hit the little rise after you've been riding above 85 percent effort for the 20 minutes or so before it. The first time I did that ride, it felt like I hit the brakes when I got to the hill. Everyone kept going and my legs just felt like they didn't even exist.

I've only been mtn biking for a few weeks, so no relevant data yet. I did take my parents hiking at Bonelli yesterday, and I think there are some sections there when I can make myself puke if I wanted.

Edit: 29/male/5'5/~140#/single /can cook/been riding for a year

Climbing up Poles at El Moro which has 30% grades near top, 178bpm. This is a cheap Timex HR monitor so no idea how accurate it is.

Lower Sam gets me up there. That little hill in Chilao in between the two roads. I hate that section. Oh and how about The Wall below Hilyar. I have never been able to clean that climb. Too loose and steep. Highest I've ever seen the heart rate is 193.

As for road climbs, the Seven Sisters in Laguna has some good ones. The last three sisters are the worst. Last week I found a new killer climb in Glendale that has 20% climbs. That got me up there. Lida going past the Art College hits pretty high for me. I like to kick it into high gear after the college to the top.

Poles is the only climb that had me unable to continue, til I caught my breath. Then again, it's the only climb I pushed myself to the limit.

Yea, Poles at El Morro. I've only been over there once, but I remember being at total max.

The highest legit heart rate I've had was 203. As I've gotten older my max has gone down but also as I get fitter my max seems to go down. For the last few years I've thrown the heart rate monitor into a box. Don't need a number on a screen anymore to know when I'm suffering.

Mt. Zion... I can climb most of it, but not quite all.

Also, when people are posting their max HR, age is relevant and important to consider.
