Biker Injured on Canyon Trail
A competitive mountain biker possibly practicing a downhill speed run on a popular canyon trail was injured after a fall Monday evening. Fire Dept. Division Chief Jeff LaTendresse said the biker apparently lost control and fell 30 feet, but 200 feet from the canyon floor. The victim's companion continued down the trail calling for help. Two executives of a construction company working nearby took a first aid kit and ran up to the victim's location. Jason Laub of Los Angeles said the victim, who lost consciousness at one point, had complained of chest pain and pain in extremities. Laub called 9-1-1. Chief LaTendresse explained that it was initially hoped that a rescue copter from OC Fire could be used to lift the victim but intense vegetation and the terrain prevented its use. Firefightersand paramedics manually lifted the victim and carried him on a stokes basket down to the canyon floor. He was taken to Mission Trauma Center and his condition is unknown. No, one of the reasons I posted it here. I saw it reading my local paper. The downhill trails in Laguna seem to attract people from all over. It appears that this rider may have been from the LA Area.

I hate hearing these. Thankfully he wasn't solo and there were others to help. I hope he's ok. I'm thinking it had to have been Telonics (or another 'unnamed' trail in close proximity), since that is the only trail there with that kind of exposure, and is close to the construction place.
