Question Riding eyewear/goggles

Did a search for goggles and came up empty so I apologize if this is a re-post.

I bet I am not the only rider who wears contacts while riding so im curious as to what others wear while out on the trails. Hopefully by the end of this year I will get the Lasik eye correction done so I wont have to worry about this.

I have recently noticed that my eyes get pretty dried out from doing some light down-hill and it drives me crazy from just wearing normal sunglasses. It is even worse when it gets windy. I am tempted to try out some dirt bike goggles.

Like always, any info is greatly appreciated.

I know a few people that just ride with goggles over their glasses. Gilbert does it.

I always wear goggles or sunglsses when I ride. Although I don't wear contacts my eyes do dry out. have another buddy that rides with contacts and just sunglasses- he doesn't seem to have any problems.

Check Oakly. They make a line of goggles made to be worn over glasses.

Take a look at the sunglasses that you are wearing. Models that have small lenses tend to let in a lot of air, so you get that dry eye feeling.

I have been riding and wearing contacts for 15 years and have only had a lens pop out twice. Just tell yourself to blink more often. Takes a little practice, but eventually you will get it.

I wear contacts too! Turnbull gets REALLY buggy during dusk and there's not enough light to warrant sunglasses (especially in the shade) so I'm considering wearing my laboratory safety glasses. I'll let you know how they work out!

I'm freakin' blind. I wear Oakley prescription sunglasses (pennys) with Rockgardn goggles over 'em. If I don't have my glasses, I can't ride. I wish I could get contacts but they won't work with my eyes for some reason. I've tried 3 times to get them. So I am stuck with my glasses.

You can do that or many of the sunglass mfgr's have yellow and clear lenses that work great when it gets around dusk.

I'll see if we have any in tomorrow. If not, I'll put them on our order list.

since you're wearing contacts, swing by your local motorcycle shop they should carry a line of smaller profile goggles that are made to wear with the brain bucket style helmets. Kind of pricy but they should come with multiple lenses just like a good pair of riding glasses.

I also were contacts and I either go with out sunglasses or I wear my Oakleys(half jackets). They have removable lenses so I can put clear lenses in when its cloudy.

When I was wearing my contacts I had the same problem...if I was riding under cover and out and back I have some difficulty w/ my eyes adjusting fast enough...so I wore Home Depot yellow construction safety glasses and they fit tight enough to my face that it helped out drastically w/ dryness...If I ride in bright sun I wear regular sunglasses and deal w/ the dryness...
These cost me $9

What he said.

I have a similar problem when I ride in dusty or windy conditions with contacts and sunglasses. The problem I have isn't so much dry eyes, but my eyes hurt like crazy when just a little speck of dirt gets caught on the edge of the contact lens. I have been saying I will get the low profile goggles for a while now, but I haven't taken the plunge.

You can get everything from the expensive stuff like these from Wiley X:

Or I've also seen generic ones in those kiosks at the mall for about $15.

I'm pretty miuch in the same boat here. My Oakley persciption glasses hug my head so well, I've got indentions behind my ears. They have transition lenses so they act like the really small sunglasses that all your friends used to try to rick in the early 90's....
Looking into a sunglass with a slot for a perscription lense in the nose peices. Don't know if they exist, but I seem to remember seeing them somewhere.

I got a pair of prescription glasses from here (these have prescription inserts under the tinted lenses) With the additional charge for the UV coating and the standard inserts I paid a total of $55.

http://www.eyebuydirect.com/moritz-p-734.html

They are OK for the price......they will fog up when you stop at any point during your ride.....but they clear up as soon as you begin riding again. During a road ride (higher speeds) the inserts would get pushed up against my eye lid by the wind but never have this problem on the Mt. Bike (7 mph avg. vs 22 mph avg speed is the difference)

I do not wear my contacts much anymore but when I did I would carry some saline drops with me on all rides plus I would wear sunglasses with wide lenses such as the Rudy Projects "Rydon II" or the "ZYON".
If I was just doing DH shuttle runs/race then I would wear my goggles.

These days I just use my prescription Oakley's.

If you are looking for a goggle that works well with helmets, and glasses, in the Army we were issued these things, they honestly work great, alot of soldiers are in the same boat where you need to wear glasses and goggles,
