Default It sure is squishy

Well after a huge push from FXRob and DINO, I finally did it. Rob sold me his '03 FXR and AM1 and I built up my first full suspension. Man it sure is a different feel. I kept the hardtail as it is just in case . Tomorrow I'll be heading to whiting to the luge with my shock pump and a plan to try out tons of combinations. Should be interesting. Here's a picture.

Definetely want to say thanks to Rob. He welcomed all my many many questions and was just really great about everyting. Thanks for waiting.

Please don't make fun of my speaker wiring in the backround. It's a work in progress.

Looking good Pat! Nice job on the build, how about a drive side pic? Have fun going down the Luge on it today, I know you'll be all smiles at the bottom. Let me know how it goes and if you have anymore questions. Congrats!!!!

That's a really nice rig. You'll definitely dig the added control and traction and energy saving on a suspension bike. Just try to pedal in circles instead of mashing and the bike will climb a lot better.

Yeah, send a driveside shot. Enjoy your new ride.

Well, my buddy and I went to whiting-luge today. From the parking lot to mustard the rocks just seemed to vansih - it was cool, but pretty bouncy. Going up mustard was another story. It's such a big difference between this and the hardtail. Climbing seemed much easier with the hardtail, but I'm sure I'll get used to it. Getting to STT was a bear also along modjeska grade rd. I started to think, what am I getting into, I hope I didn't make a mistake. Once at the trailhead to STT, I adjusted the rebound and started my slow climbing. It was here I came around. I don't know if the rebound is what did it, but it seemed I was going through the bumps rather than up and over them. The climbs were tough, but the energy I would normally expend on all these small rocks, and ruts made it a wash I thought. The Luge sealed the deal. Wholly crap, I was screaming down. Normally my buddy and I are close together on the downhills - him just a litlte ahead. Here I was much faster, and the bike just floated, smooth. I did have a crash on the luge though. Whoever put the bike together needs a new job . The stupid back wheel QR came loose and washed out on me. I found myself on the ground and bike on top of me. I pushed it off of me and my wrist hit the rotor, and burned my wrist and it didn't feel so great. The rest of the ride was great. So, I'm very please with the ride. Rob, thank-you thank-you thank-you. You were right, the bike fits perfectly too. I think it's a tad too high tall, but the cockpit was perfect. I'll get another picture up today. I have to clean it.

Only thing I have questions on is the front fork. It's really great, but a tad too supple. I'd rather have it more stiff. Is there any way to do this? I know you (Rob) mentioned the air port, but I forgot what it did already. I'll try and do some more research on it today.

Yeah Pat, you need to add more air to the fork if it feels too soft for you. Not sure how much air is in it now but probably not very much. I'd say put in about 25ish psi and see how it feels then. I think I was only running about 10-15psi.

Otherwise you'll just have to dial in the rear shock for climbs. You did crank in the pro pedal knob for climbing right? It will really keep the rear end much stiffer and it won't bob basically at all if/when you get it set up properly.

Otherwise sounds like you have finally seen the light!!! Glad you had a good ride (minus your crash). Give me a call if you need anymore tuning tips
