Default couple questions and suggestion(newbe)

I don’t want to offend anyone but i was just wondering if there should be a forum for newbies not just a thread. The reason I’m asking it’s because I have some pretty basic questions that might be annoying or waste of time for some of you plus not only that maybe some threads would not repeat as much?
What do you guys think?

Here are some of my questions:

can I alter with front forks travel distance wise I currently have a bomber x600 6.0" travel and would like to know if I can down size or go higher?

I also have a tire width that’s 2.35 and would like to upgrade to 2.5 is that possible on the same rim?

I have a 2007 giant reign2

I thought the highest travel an XC 600 came in was 130mm? Anyway, you can switch forks and travel, you just have keep a few things in mind: axle-to-crown height, HT angle, etc. Rule of thumb is 1" of travel equals 1 degree of HT angle. Drop an inch of travel, you will steepen the HT angle by about 1 degree and vice-versa. I wouldn't get too drastic with how much travel you add or subtract. The bike's geometry was created to work with a certain travel/length fork. Any substitutions too far off the mark will mess up the way it handles and possibly void its warranty.

As for tires, you just need to make sure the tire will fit. You will likely have more of an issue fitting a larger rear tire--seatstay and chainstay width. Some more narrow XC rims may not fit a 2.5 tire, but I believe most standard width rims would. Keep in mind--just because a tire is listed as a 2.5, doesn't mean it's actually 2.5" wide. Kenda's tire measurements are pretty spot on, while a lot of other tire manufacturers are not. However, rim width will affect tire width as well....so many variables and so much to take into account.
