Well it seems like they're at it again. The Forestry Service in Montana is talking about banning bikes on "Proposed Wilderness". Please take a few minutes to read a little on this and possibly type a small letter to them. This really sux.
I personally wrote a letter, that may not have been the best one, but I said what I felt.here's mine... To whom it may concern: It has come to my attention that the forestry service has decided they want to ban bicycling in "Proposed Wilderness " areas, primarily in the state of Montana. Once again I have to ask the question, "Why?". We as mountain bikers are a low impact user group and we typically do more trail work then any other user group. It's very annoying that some people claim that we are doing damage to trails, but we are the ones who are most commonly using the trails and we DO NOT do any more damage then hikers. Now on the other hand take equestrians and see what damage they do to a trail, it is substancially more then what a bike does, yet I hear of no call to ban them. Why is this? Is it because we don't fit what another user group might see as nature lovers? That they'd like to lump us in to the ATV group? We are not like this at all, we love nature and we also love the serenity of the wilderness, a bicycle just gets us further in the outback and lets us see more, to discover more and at the same time indulge into a healthy sport which does no damage to the enviornment. Would you please reconsider your stand on this issue? We are here to help and to enjoy the trails as much as everyone else. Please don't put to much weight into the psuedo religion types like the Sierra Club, as they are very closed minded and can only see the world they want, not what's best for us all. Sincerely, Michael Miller Sr Fontana, CA And here's a link to get you to the right place... https://secure2.convio.net/imba/site...6ewlmx51.app6b

I could have spent more time thinking about it and done some research, but I think this gets the point across
Please do not implement a blanket ban on bicycling recommended wilderness.I strongly feel that are wilderness should be preserved. As for closure to mountain biking, well this just seems to be singling out one group, rather than looking at the whole. The impact that mountain bikes have on well established trails is minimal at best.Several groups of trail users provide trail maintenance ( that includes mountain bikers) that state and local governments cannot seem to afford, even though much of that funding comes from tax payers. To ban bikes without hearing from the constituents of the state/states, is taking away the freedoms we are provided under the laws of this great country.I Use the trail in all forms, from hiking to biking,ect.... and it would pain me that my children will not be able to use the trails with their bikes and get the enjoyment that many mountain bikers hold special.I am certain that 95 percent of avid bikers are willing to compromise and work with any agencies that control the outcome of said trail closure. Please consider this. With all due respect Danny A. Cole
