Anybody have recomendations on decent accomodations in Moab? Chain hotel/motel or an independent? This is just me and a riding buddy, no sig others, so all we really need is a decent place to crash after riding all day.
Budget is flexible, just looking for endorsements/recommendations from someone who's been there/done that. Thanks in advance!

I usually stay at the Super 8. I've been going a couple of times a year for about 12 years and they usually give me a discount.

I stay at Holiday Inn Express hotels all over the country so I can keep building points. There is a new one in Moab its the first hotel you hit when you drive into town. HIE hotels are always consistent for me, not super fancy but always clean, staff is nice, internet works, free food isnt bad, etc... If you really wanna get something nice in Moab lookup Moab Condo Rentals. You can rent a bitchin fully furnished condo in Moab and some are almost the same cost as hotels.

I've stayed at the redstone inn twice now, and they have been great both times, its in easy walking distance to the moab brewery and whatnot. I would stay there again no problem, although I might camp next time, we'll see...

I've stayed at the LaQuinta a couple of times. It's nice, clean, and there's a free breakfast where you can make your own waffles or eat cold cereal, etc. The rooms have microwaves and mini-fridges. No one on the staff griped about me having my bike in my room. I'd stay there again.
Another good place is the Canyonlands Campground. It's an RV park, but they also have tent sites and cabins. There are clean restrooms and showers, too. It's camping, but without the sweaty-dirty-can't-get-clean part. I'd stay there again, too. Great rates, especially compared to a hotel/motel. www.canyonlandsrv.com I always bring a lock and cable, even when I'm staying in a hotel. Call me paranoid, but as long as other people have keys to my room, they can be tempted to steal my bike!

I have stayed at some pretty sketchy looking places in Moab, but after a insane day of riding and a few beers all you need is a hot shower and a place to pass out. Go cheap and save the money for a shuttle the next day.

If you want to stay in a nice place that feels like home and cooks you a killer breakfast each morning you CAN NOT lose by staying at the Sunflower Inn B&B. Yeah sounds a bit gay, but let me tell you it is worth it. Read my write-up and you'll see why.
They also have a great sitting room with a fireplace, coffee, tea and cookies treats throughout the day, hot tub, pool, etc.

As much as I like to camp, it's great to have some comfy digs waiting at the end of a long day on the trail.

If you like camping there's always the Slickrock Campground. They have little cabins - I think most have two double beds in them...and there just big enough to put your bikes and gear. Most have small porches...small fire pits. Community showers are decent. http://www.slickrockcampground.com/

I have stayed here the last few times. It's not fancy but has all you need. Even a BBQ in the front yard. It's walking distance to town too so you can lock your bike up and go crazy drinking that 3% beer.

The Holiday Inn Express on the way into town on the 191 is my choice. I've stayed quite a few places over the years and liked it the best a couple of years ago. Last year, in an attempt to save a few bucks, we stayed at the Motel 6 or 8 or whatever and it was a real let down with scummy rooms and lacked ammenities. The Holiday Inn has nice clean rooms, a good indoor pool/hot tub, free breakfast that is pretty decent, a bike room to store stuff or wrench on bikes (with a few tools) and is overall very bike friendly. The hotel is a short pedal to Poison Spider shop to pick up a shuttle and only a couple miles from downtown.

For what it's worth, I hated the Slickrock Campground. The place was overrun with crap in the air and my bed was a pile of s****e. After two nights of sleeping on the bed, I blew up my thermarest and slept in a sleeping bag on the floor.
For my money, and for not much more than Slickrock Campground, I stay at the Moab Valley RV Campground. This place is the Cadillac of campgrounds. We are staying in small cabins at the Moab Valley this upcoming May. Perhaps the only downside to this place is the location: it's at the entrance to town, and driving distance away from food and near-beer. |
