You mean how hazardous can a landing helicopter be? I think it can get pretty hazardous.

Ya read that thread, but from the image it states harding will open on the 10th. Just MW and maple are closed until further notice?

No, read it again, it states Harding and Silverado Truck Trail will remain closed:

Some excerpts:
Maple Springs Road will remain closed until work associated with cleanup of tailings at the old Blue Light Mine is complete. The road could reopen as early as Thanksgiving weekend or early December, depending on when work is complete.

Some trails are going to remain closed: Harding Truck Trail and Silverado Truck Trail.

Silverado Truck Trail is aka Motorway, correct? So this looks like Blackstar/Motorway loops are off limits for now still?

Harding was hardest hit by the fire and will probably not open till sometime in 09. They want to evaluate the conditions once we get some significant rain fall to see if the hills sides will hold up since there is no vegetation to hold it together or soak up the rains. Harding could be 1 giant mud slide come this winter.

I think you need to look at the image again. May be twice more.

Btw, do you guys know if there is a new closure order? from Debra Clarke's email it sounded like there supposed to be one last Friday.

Just the one stating the closure to Maple and Silverado trail until the cleanup of the Hazmat from the mine is complete.

The man is always trying to keep us down.

They are keeping it closed for safety reasons

Analogy--

You = the government
Kids = mountain bikers
Front lawn = closed area

Say you had a patch of your front lawn that wasnt growing, so you decided to seed it or resod it. Then you saw your kids jumping and stompin around on said new grass.

And considering your kids played on that patch all the time. You the government say "get the hell off the lawn your going ruin it", but your kids still played on it, you would probably consider banning them from playing there right?

Yeah its still my kids land, but I dont want them destroying the lawn every two seconds. Then I would have to fix it all the time and eventually KICK THEM OFF THE LAWN FOR GOOD.

I'm not advocating anything that's breaking rules, but to be clear, the posting guidelines state not to post about riding in closed areas. As a responsible adult, the choice and potential consequences are up to you.

Stick it to the man, bow down to the man, it's up to you.

Hmm...

Sorry, I don't buy that analogy.
An acre is 43,560 sq. ft.... most areas with closed trails are hundreds -sometime thousands- of acres. Riding an 18" wide trail through such immensely large areas is hardly "destroying the lawn". Not even close!

Some areas are closed for better (more valid) reasons than others. One either follows the rules, or doesn't... and when not, accepts the possible consequences.

As per the rules of this site, we don't post stories or photos regarding riding "closed" trails on a public forum.

While the hazmat is being removed possibly with heavy equipment and helicopters, they don't want to worry about trail users safety. http://www.socaltrailriders.org/foru...&postcount=100

They may even close the forest because of high winds this weekend.
