Nice setup. My AC was built more XC oriented...Manitou 3-way in back with a Vanilla 5" up front. For reasons that I still can't exatly pinpoint, the bike and I just never bonded. It was a huge disappointment for me, as the bike looked great and positive reviews were all over the place. Are you still riding the AC?

Never bought a MB i didn't love.
I've had 3 Kleins between 1985-now, and a new Yeti 575 as of yesterday.
For me, the key was to try lots of bikes, talk to people, and ask LOTS of questions... all this before laying down your cash (or card). Caveat emptor.

I purchased a Cannondale Scalpel and hated everything about it. Geometry was wacked and the front shock sucked horribly. I did get my money back out of it so I suppose that was pretty good.

Cheers,

C.K.

Ugh...I still recoil at the thought of my K2 Razorback Superlight!!

The bike was never "right" no matter what I did to it or how I tried to adapt to it. I kept thinking "it will get better over time". Hahaha! Joke was on me because that never happened.

I crashed more on that bike than on my old, trusty Gary Fisher hardtail. And to think, the Razorback cost a lot more $$ and was supposed to be sooo much better!

I dismembered it after I took it cliffdiving with me (long story) and then Dan's friend bought the frame for his wife. She loves it. Maybe she doesn't know any better (not a hardcore biker).

Mine was an F-900. The frame fit hreat but everything that was on the bike that was Cannondale brand - Coda, was problematic, as was the Lefty fork. Repeated trips back to my LBS for the brakes, the seat post and bottoming out the Lefty. Sold it after 6 months for a Rockhound that didn't fit me well. I hate even thinking about that now because had I never purchased that F-900 I'd still have my old Rockhopper. Upgrade bug was a big disaster for me...

I have never purchased a bike that I was not satisfied with. I have purchased a couple bikes that I was not satisfied with the set up from the shop. Same for motorcycles, I much prefer to buy them "in the box" and set them up my self or build from scratch.

Default Trek Y-22

Bought one of these new in '96. Thought it was pretty awesome, but the front fork was flexy as hell (Judy XC). Then, I broke the frame. Trek fixed it. I broke it again. Trek fixed it again. Broke it a third time, and they replaced it with a '98 Y-33. Rode that for a few years and sold it. Bought an RFX, and couldn't believe that I rode that POS Trek for so long.

RFX is still going strong after eight years.

Mine was a 99 (i think) Specialized Stumpjumper FSR in lime green. I ad been riding a hardtail and I decided to make the jump to FS so i went with what I knew Specialized...uggh I hated that bike. I rode it for three months a bought a Superlight frame, transfered all the gear and the frame is still hanging in the garage!

2007 Yeti 575... I really enjoyed the bike but it just did not fit correctly which I blame not on the bike but having a 36" inseam. I liked it just fine until I rode a RIP9 2 weeks after buying it. Big mistake... the RIP was ordered and the 575 never left the garage again until it was boxed for it's new owner...

You know, I almost bought one of these. MBAction rated it very highly and said it was a must have second bike. I'm with you, with the exception of moving to 29s, why regress to SS and full rigid?

I know, CRAAAAACK!! goes the can of worms.

Default 2000 Intense Tracer

At the time, Intense was THE bike to have...and I was working in the industry so I ordered one and had it custom anodized--gold.

Lots of people who rode with me in the earlier part of this decade remember "Goldmember" which never fit me properly, had issues climbing, but did a great job making molehills out of mountains on the downhills. Too bad the BB height was so high that my COG was too high and made singletrack trails feel sketchy...

I gave up on the bike in 2004 when I had a SS built up from a used Specialized hardtail which fit me better than the Intense and that's when I realized how badly the Intense was designed for XC riding. My old Proflex handled better.

My Pistachio coloured Giant Trance is the best full sus I've owned, and was lots cheaper than the Intense! --the Intense is up for sale BTW...size SM.

1999 Specialized M2 hardtail.
My first Mt bike, and tried to get what I thought was good.
It had race geometry, and I constantly was crashing and injuring myself.
My feeling is the bike had something against me..
Sold it in 2000 and purchased an Intense tracer. Been riding it until just a few months ago. It's still in my stable and will still see singletrack.

Dang I'm glad I didn't give up on this sport!

Sounds like an epic though....it's a hardtail with little give with a steep head angle.

I ride my buddy's S-Works Epic 2004 and he made it a lot easier on your back with a shorter stem and riser bars so you sit up a bit more as opposed to being hunched over.

Please do not confuse this with atomic cycles in van nuys, as it is a vintage and used shop. You get what you look for.

Bought a used TREK from craigslist. The middle gear in the front sprocket had been bent by the previous owner. They never mentioned it to me and I could figure out why everytime I climbed the chain would catch ending my ride. After three trips to the shop to get it bent back the mechanic enlightened me that this would be a never ending problem. I traded it for a beach cruiser on craigslist. Before someone accuses my karma, I told the new owner of the problem with the gear before the deal.

When I was first getting into mountainbiking I traded this surfer kid with a jetta my beach cruiser for a trek hardtail. He made it sound like the best bike in the world and was very convincing. I had never ending problems with the driveline, the middle chainring kept bending on me. i asked for my bike back but he said he sold it to pay for a new drive axle for his car. He then asked me to help him install it. some nerve. I hope he tightened all the bolts enough
