Default Who takes care of the trails?

Who takes care of the local trails? My work matches contributions I make *to charities and foundations. *I would like to support the trails I ride on and don't know where to start. *Any ideas?

The best way to help with your local trails is with muscle power. Check with your local bike clubs, advocacy groups and land managers. Any of these should be able to steer you towards trail work and trail donation opportunities.

Supporting your local advocacy and trail groups with funds is great and helps support them with the tools and resources to keep our trails in shape; but with trail tools, you also need plenty of bodies to put them into action.

The trail maintenance season is quickly coming upon us, so there should be plenty of opportunities to help.

As the post above suggested locally for Orange County trail groups:

SHAREMTB.com

Warriorssociety.org

Trails4All.org

All of these are great organizations locally in O.C.

There will also be some upcoming opportunities in the South Irvine Open Space for trail maintenance and restorations. You can contact me at a.maywhort@irlrtrust.org

I know the Santa Monica and the San Diego areas also have very active trail programs.

Check out all your options, and put your money and your muscle where it will best serve you locally for the trails you have passion for.

Thanks

Hear, hear Adam!
Many hands make the work easy. It really is worth it, and gives you another avenue to feed your 'passion'.

Whiting Ranch Trail Project

#2

Once again Whiting Ranch has a project for us to improve a trail that is deteriorating. We need to do a reroute on a section of Lower Serrano Cow Trail. That is the single track we hit after Serrano and the fire road after cactus meet back up. This will be a pretty straight foreword reroute to get rid of the drop off created by this years rains and a few small other projects along the way that could use correcting.

Where? *Meet at Concourse Park at the top of Saddleback Ranch road. *We will shuttle people down to the trail head.

Time? *1:00 pm. This should only take a few hours to accomplish our goal.

After? *We can sneak in a ride of the new trail and all meet after for cold ones and food at Wahoo’s

Who? *We need 15 to 20 people.

Cactus trail turned out really well after our last repairs. Come on out and help get this park back into shape for everyone. *

Please reply and let us know you can make it so we know how many to plan for.

The volunteer work is this Saturday.

Also SHARE is starting a program of trail patrols in Aliso Woods. The patrollers will be there to help and also educate riders and hikers in the trails. They need to buy some material (mainly jerseys, tools and print flyers). I am sure they can take some donations, or even better, join as a member. You get information about what is affecting your trails and you get discount at local bike shops.

They also need volunteers to help. Working on a trail is a fun way to meet people who share the same passion. And you will feel a pride every time you will ride on the trail you worked on.
