Default Helmets, what brand protects your dome?

I have an old P.O.S. Specialized helmet that is in dire need of replacing and was wondering what brands you all may have tried over the years. I see lots of Giro's out on the dirt, but came across this on jenson, http://www.jensonusa.com/store/produ...-Ray%2B05.aspx it looks like a good deal and got good reviews. It's on sale for $39.99 http://www.jensonusa.com/store/imgWr...ium.jpg&type=3

I was also looking at this Giro, listed for $48.9. It has more vents than the BELL, but looks to be much bulkier than the BELL. *http://www.jensonusa.com/store/imgWr...ack.jpg&type=3

Default Fit

When I was first looking at helmets my odd shaped head only seemed to fit well in Bells. Every Giro I tried just didn't work well. Point being, I think helmets are a little like shoes, you never know if it's going to fit just right.

All helmets will protect your head since they have to follow the CSPC code. As far as which company both Giro and Bell are under the same company, Bell Sports I think [Link]. Pick the one that fits best, as the previous poster said. Also the more vents the better, its like A/C for your head. So try them out before buying them.

Yes more vents are better. I like the Giro E2, some good prices at Jenson now on those.

Giro and Bell are both under Bellsports I believe. I own a similar Bell to the one above (influx) and it's a good lid. The roller adjustment wheel in the back works good.

My current favorite is the Giro Xen. Yeah, it's pricey, but the it's got good protection in the back and is vented well. If they made this with the Bell roller wheel that'd be awesome.

Fit wise, it might be just me, but the Giro helmets seem to run a bit smaller than Bell.

As far as customer service goes, Giro/Bell have been great for me. They've always sent replacement pads free, and the crash replacement program is pretty fair. So I'm loyal to them.

I think that's a pretty good deal above.

I used to ride with a Bell Influx, now I'm using a Bell X-Ray. The Influx was/is a good helmet. The X-Ray has a couple more vents so I decided to go with that.

Not exactly on topic, but here's a pic of my dad's Bell Influx after a gnarly crash 2 weeks ago. It sure did it's job!!

A bit off topic too but it saddens me when I see kids riding down the street with those skate style helmets and the straps are just hanging down the side, unhooked.
