I am not sure what the plants/flowers are called but there is another that LOOKS like that one that is not toxic/poisonous and in the hills in SoCal. I will have to look it up.

Thanks for the post.

This should be sticky so that everyone can see it, also, maybe if we come across it on our rides, we should try and make a point to make others awar of where we saw it.

Since we're on possibly poisonous purple petals, please don't eat the foxglove, either.

Not really a trailside plant, but people have them in their yards.

The poisonous plant in question is a species in the phacelia family (Hydrophyllacea), has many benevolent look-alikes in So Cal. yes it is a fire-follower, tends to pop up in recently burned areas. I got it bad once out in Joshua Tree-it is found in the desert too in a wet spring. Oh, lupines are unrelated (Pea family) and look quite different-there is a stinging lupine too! (in the desert I think...)

Anyone run across any of this stuff on your rides this weekend?
We saw something that looked similar, but wasn't the same stuff.

TKBlazer,

your flowers are lupine. I know they're edible because every time I try to plant them, the snails eat them down to the ground before the sun rises the next day.
