Default Custom Paint

Any good reccomendations for a place to go for custom paint?

I am starting to have visions of slowly building a new SS.

Olympic? Around $100 or so - and that includes sand blasting the old paint off.

hardtails are usually cheaper, i think shannon paid like $75... my orange intense was $125 and my blue reign cost $150 due to the color and pearl in the coat

Alum frames are more expensive (can't use sand blasting)

its sort of the same. powder coat is where one part is positively charged (paint...er, powder) and your frame is negatively charged- the paint jumps onto the frame.

then, it gets baked on!

benefit: less mess. the powder is just that- a dry powder, NOT wet paint. better on the environment as well.

safe to say you are not a custom painter.

less mess?? have you ever tried one of those DIY deals from Eastwood? They work killer but I make much less mess with my Binks.

My experience is as follows. Same frame. Same color. Different results.

Frame - 2000 Dean Private.
Originally painted Dean (Kawasaki) Green by Spectrum
Repainted by Olympic circa 2005 or 2006 with Dean (Kawasaki) Green

First paint job experienced some cracking. I rode the frame very hard for a couple years back in college, but it shouldn't have needed the numerous touch-ups like it did. Also to my disappointment, there was a tiny amount of bubling near the dropouts. That was not being cool.

Olympic's paintjob has held up great. While I don't ride the bike quite like I used to, I am still very happy with how it's held up over the past few years. Close inspection upon receipt of the completed frame showed no bubbling or other issues.

Unless I need a fully custom job, an area in which Spectrum is unmatched, I can't think of a reason why I wouldn't choose Olympic.
