Lets hug it out

FYI guys. Per Eric Carter.
http://www.ridemonkey.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=197613 "Ok, here it goes. been working on this for a while now, it has taken a lot longer then i thought it would...been trying to keep it on the down low, but the owner has asked me to post this to see what the response is...i already know. but fire away please. there are a lot of things that will need to be done before this is a reality but things are moving in that direction. In no way am i saying that there IS a bike park open. The Location is Vail Lake resort http://www.vaillakeresort.com/index....2_4_Photo-Tour Just out side of Temecula....they have 9000 acre's, no that is not a typo. the facility also has 450 camp sites a 1200 acre lake, miniture golf , water slides, horse back riding and a newly finished RC car track. The first phase would be a hill that has 500 ft of elevation... there would be between 4 and 6 runs off this hill, 2 of the existing Super D type trails will be modified and have jump features added, this is all shuttle access. we have 2 other peaks that are the same elevation drop that will be used for phase 2 depending on success of the park and if it continues to grow, there is a canyon that can be used that has 700 feet of elevation on one side and 1200 feet on the other....we also would love to build dirt jumps/ 4x and DS courses but first we want DH stuff to be the focus. events already are taking place out here, along with a big network of trails...x terra and 24 hours of Temecula as well as a couple of local XC series....but there is no gravity yet. Ultimately it is going to be a decision by the property owner to pull the trigger, i have explained to him how hungry our area is for a lift accessed DH park, and presented him with spread sheets and data to show him the potential....he is on the fence about it but leaning towards going for it. i say don't be afraid to call them and ask when the bike park will be open. thoughts?" |

Great location but just 500 ft of elevation change? 2-5,000 feet of elevation change would most likely be needed though. Granted you could zig zag the course a little bit but still it's a 20 second ride down the hill with that. Great idea...and probably a little better fit for 4x and dirt jumping.
I'd really prefer Saddle back mountain to have a chair lift to the top from Holy Jim Canyon...that would be ideal. Just my two cents. KRZ |

I only read the post once... but did EC say lift? I do recall he said there was shuttle access.

Ah, nope, he didn't mention a lift. Yeah a lift would probably cost way too much.

I still think it'd draw a good amount of visitors if all they had was 1-2 shuttle trucks. They could open it up to public trucks also so they didn't have to worry about that I guess (similar to Bootleg).

Name: Northway Type: Fixed-grip, Double Doppelmayr Lift Vertical: 1,816 feet Horizontal Distance: 5,210 feet Top Elevation: 6,749 feet Bottom Elevation: 4,933 feet People Per Hour: 1,200 Cost: $3.5 million $3.5 million isn't too bad. Some people I know have houses that cost more than that. Considering that all the larger pieces like the intermediate towers had to be flown into place by helicopter, that's not bad at all. If this place has fire road access so the equipment could be trucked in, then you might be able to cut as much as $250,000 out of the cost right there, considering mobilization costs for a heavy lift helicopter run about $60,000 (so I hear). |

Who knows perhaps someon at the Irvine Company, the US Forestry, County of Orange are avid MTB'rs and cooperate to make this happen. I also thought I could never afford an Ellsworth. I'm looking at it in my garage all dialed in a ready to ride. Except my ufking knee hurts. KRZ ![]() |

Heck, the Dr probably has samples, ask him for some and he/she may give you a case.I posted on RM and I will say the same here, I knew a few riders back in the day that would drive 30 to 45 minutes just to ride 550ft of elevation change a few blocks from here. The good thing about the park is it will be legal and as he stated, 500 is just for starters to gauge interest. If it starts booming the say there is a hill side with 1200ft of elevation and access so it could turn into a great place to ride. |

I'm wth Destroyer, I'm not great at building but point me in the right direction and I'll help out, Vail is like 20 minutes from me and a whole park would be great.

I'm in... Sounds like fun, once we get it up and running we could build some crazy on the 1200 ft canyon wall...

I forwarded this thread on the Ridemonkey thread to show more people are interested in this.
Would you drive 50 miles & pay $40 to ride @ a lift accessable bike park? |

I remember riding my bmx bike there about 35-40 years ago. Back then it used to be called Butterfield Country and the area in question used to be a motorcycle park. We used to camp there all the time and sneak our bikes onto the motorcycle compound and ride some trails. I remember when they put in the waterslide. That place could be a fun place. The potential is there and if done right they could have an awesome mtb park. Slopestyle, DH, 4X, jump park, maybe some Whistler style stunts...you know shutes and ladders. |

FYI:: with all the questions regarding the 500 ft of elevation I went to Aliso this morning and started the Garmin 305 at the bottom of Meadows, when I reached the top I had climbed 648ft. Hopefully this will help as a scale for most of you.
